FREEDOM: CURIOUS WORD

An affectionate greeting of freedom, friend and brother on Steemit.

The word Freedom is so fashionable these days that commonly in a dialogue or writing it is used "freely"; but, although it seems to be of simple meaning, in reality the word Freedom is a concept that tends to have abstract and misunderstood characteristics, sometimes it can be ambiguous by itself and it is complicated to define.

That is, even when the interpretation of the rational theory for the word Freedom is linked to the faculty of the human being to allow theirself to feel, think, speak, do and omit, according to their own will (free will); in social practice that capacity is limited by the social rules of human behavior, by morals, values ??and ethics, laws, duties and rights of citizens, and by the limiting constraints that derive from religion, customs, fanaticism, taboos, vices and fears, among others.

Etymologically, Freedom has its origin in the Latin "libertas", which means Liberty; for which since antiquity, this word is used to refer to as an antonym of slavery, subjugation, oppression, submission and coercion; therefore it is reflected in the ability to think, speak and act or not, according to one's own desires, depending on the absolute will of the person, but being responsible for their decisions and the consequences they entail.

Philosophically, Freedom is an inherent part of the human condition, with self-awareness, in the moral, ethical sense and of the values ??and principles that each person possesses, and defined by the norms and laws established by the prevailing system of society and country of which is part.

Anthropologically, Freedom is a very personal event impossible to refer or delegate from one person to another, nor the consequences involved; therefore, Freedom can not be contradicted or suppressed.

Politically and Socially, Freedom is a human right based on free will and legislatively limited; with fulfillment of duties and enjoyment of rights. This Freedom is associated with democracy and part of the intrinsic will of each citizen to choose, be elected, represented or be part of a certain social or political organization.

Evolutively, with the revolution of thought, since the eighteenth century, freedom was linked with faculties, virtues and rights, such as justice and equality; generating social changes derived from the new organizations of society and the emergence of previously unpublished political regimes; for which the coherence of the word Freedom was associated, with the words democracy and independence and in antithesis of dictatorship and tyranny.

In this sense, Freedom is now synonymous with independence, autonomy, emancipation, manumission, rebellion, will, prerogative, exemption, immunity, privilege and spontaneity; in contrast, their most common antonyms are: slavery, subjection, dependence, vassalage, submission, oppression, coercion, dictatorship and tyranny.

Therefore, in today's modernity, Freedom is a guarantee for the respect of human rights and the individual will of each one of us; implying that each citizen must have full enjoyment of their rights, but must comply with their duties, respect the laws and the rights of their peers, and must be fully responsible for their words and actions.

The negative or bizarre side of the word Freedom, is known as Libertinism, understood as an "absolute freedom" that leads to social unrest; being an ambiguous form that is generated as a derivation of liberation in its wide sense; typifying Freedom as synonymous with impudence, debauchery, sin, immorality, immodesty, leisure, disorder, chaos and anarchy; and as an antonym of morality, ethics, modesty, limitation, prohibition and formalism.

As a way to stop Libertinism as a misunderstood and poorly applied Freedom, in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights it is defined that Freedom is conditioned to respect the Freedoms of others and to avoid causing harm to other people; relating morality and the principles of civic coexistence that must be fulfilled in Freedom, to make it possible to live as a society in harmony and peace.

In short, the only absolute Freedom of the human being is represented by death, because we are free to die at some point, that is something inevitable, although without precision for the choice of date, manner and place; of the rest all our Freedoms are limited, some with greater degrees of restrictions than others.
