days before the lockdown

Last week or so, the self-isolation stuff was just a recommendation so while we were keeping our distance and practicing lots of use of hand santizer, people were still allowed to do stuff.

I met some friends up in nearby Hoi An and immediately took a wrong turn, which isn't so bad in Hoi An because it isn't nearly as populated as Da Nang is.

This brackish water area is a pretty popular place to visit for dinner and cocktails although you wouldn't know it by looking at it now. It is important to note that at this point most of the tourists had already been sent off by Corona-fear and the country was being very restrictive about who else would be let in.

These fresh seafood places are normally very popular because a lot of the food is actually kept in the in-water pens out back. This is actually quite expensive though - more than fresh seafood would cost back in the west, which doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. This is why I don't ever eat at these spots. I do like happy hour though.

Closer to the beach i was walking past this resort that had these cool motorbikes with side cars. I don't know if they use them to actually transport people because nothing is going on right now and I have only lived in this area a bit over a year. I would certainly like to go on a ride in one of them though.

This last image comes from the day the government shut down the pubs / bars. At least they gave a lot of advanced notice because the bars were very aware of the fact that they needed to sell all the beer in the taps. The beer was already pretty cheap but when it made its way down to half price we were talking less than 50 cents US for a pint. That was a fantastic day but now the town seems a bit dead - which it should if we are gonna get past this Covid disaster.

So until then I suppose we'll just hang out inside and dick about on Steemit! Adiós muchachos!
