When I first saw these at a few locations around the town I thought they were artwork of some sort, a rather intense antenna, or perhaps the property of someone that was a fan of sci-fi. Even though I have been looking at them for several years now I have never gotten up close to have a better look at them.
Turns out they were nothing of the sort and definitely not what is stated in my clickbait title but rather, something with a very practical purpose
Someone who is Vietnamese might laugh at my ignorance but to me these look like something you would use to communicate with someone very far away, perhaps aliens but I'm afraid I was a bit too whimsical in my ideas. Turns out they are for cooking or heating something up by using sunlight, which is something we don't have a great deal of this time of the year.
In the center off all of these mirror covered satellite dishes is a small platform that I guess you could put meat on but one of them actually had a pot that was chained to it as well which is good because I am not very smart and probably still would have been pretty confused.
I've been to almost all of the South East Asian countries and I have never seen these anywhere else. If you are not from Vietnam do you have something like this in your area? I find them to be extremely cool but I would imagine it would need to be a really really hot day for it to be effective at all.
Also, these were all chained to the ground with some pretty hardcore chains so I guess that petty theft is a bit of a problem here.
