Quote of the day:
"If the Earth were actually this size, the International Space Station would be orbiting at about half an inch above the surface. And that dude who jumped out of a perfectly good balloon... Felix Baumgartener, he would have been about 2 millimeters above the surface of this globe. That's his 'edge of space' jump... They made sure to photograph him standing there with a really wide angled lens, which curves horizontal lines. So, in the photo, you see this curvature of Earth's surface, and you say, wow, he's in space, look at that! No, he's not! At that height, you don't see, you don't see the curvature of the Earth if you are 2 millimeters above this beachball!"

Stu Broce loves flying high.
“The view is incredible. You can see 300 miles away,” he said from the cockpit of NASA’s high-altitude ER-2 research aircraft. “You can see the curvature of the Earth. If you look up, the sky is very dark blue.”

Wide angle lenses curve horizontal lines. So no Earth curvature for Felix at 3x an airplane’s altitude

The curvature of the Earth begins about 5000 miles down (oops, that is near the center of the Earth). To "SEE" the curvature of the Earth you must start at about +13,000 feet above Mean Sea Level (although the curve is very slight) and to see a definitive curve to the Horizon you should be somewhere near 45,000 feet AMSL. These elevations can be checked using a good understanding of Geometry, or perhaps a clear, unrestricted view from any altitude. JMHO,,
