Close shave? Vintage safety razor

I have the instincts of a magpie and I can't resist old metal objects. I found it in an old store-room on the roof of a building that I lived in in the city centre.

First patented in 1912, this particular make of Ever-Ready safety razor probably dates back to the 1940's or thereabouts, I couldn't find an exact date for this particular style online. I'm not so sure I would be keen to use this for its intended purpose and I don't think that blades are still available. Some safety razors can take normal 2-sided blades but this one was made to take a single edged blade that could be sharpened with a leather strop in the same way that cut-throat razors are sharpened.

This razor looks a whole lot more dangerous than modern disposable razors but perhaps it was a safer alternative to cut-throat razors.

I remember these types of razors and the blades that were used well.
I also remember almost every bathroom had a metal medicine cabinet with a mirror on the front above a sink. When you opened the mirror inside were shelves for different pill bottles and supplies.
And in the back was a small slit to drop the used blades into. The old blades just fell through the slot into the wall space behind the sink.
I alway thought that was very odd, and dangerous if someone ever had to cut into that wall only to be surprised by a lot of old rusty dangerous razor blades.
I actually saw a pile of these in a wall of a house we were renovating once.

Very sure that it is not Chinese invention.
This machine has to be for life.
Excellent photo for the memory.

I don't know about that being safe, looks like something that John Kramer would use in the SAW movie xD Still looks like a cool item to have in someones collection.

That's very interesting we have to make more posts like this, which make us feel reminiscent towards golden years and naivety .sangshe_Sunrise and Ocean_YkVqRGU.jpg

I don't know if they were naive. Brave is more like it ;)

yes , what i mean by naive is loving peace for everyone , not in derogatory way , beacuse most people of nowadays are filled with evil guile and grudges towards each other . god bless u ;)

True

very good old stuff!

Old is gold

That's awesome! Technology has brought us a long way. Even when it comes to razors!
