Science and Dismantling a Vintage Door.

in vintage •  6 years ago

It took us few minutes, to dismantle an old vintage door. It was fixed strongly in one of the room of my ancestors home at my native place. The door which is made up of pure wood and still looks very strong and heavy were unplugged with very less effort.

image

I refer it as Vintage as It is said to be fixed around 1970's in one of the outer room. Looking at the simplicity and the science behind to make such door is really appreciable. For any of us it looks like a just another 2-ply door which get easily shut only to not to open anyone wants. But the main thing is how simply the door is fixed on the wall.

image

Looking closely at the door main part, you will find a pure wood of 1970 and still very hard and strong. It has two Iron stucks fixed on top and bottom of each of the side. These Iron Sticks has actually a hook on each of the side that make the door to get fixed on the side bars. The iron which is fixed has a outer hook like this.

image

These hook has a special place, as it allows the doors to get fixed on the sidebars. Okay let me tell the science behind these doors. These kind of doors were assembled and easily fixed on the walls. It has two side bars and one bar on the top. We have Iron rings on the sidebars , and these side bars were fixed on the walls. Then the third bars with a iron hook on top. The top wooden bars keep the both sidebars strongly.

image

The door were then put into these sidebars. The use of iron hooks comes in use as those hooks were simply put on the iron rings of side bars. Locking it from both end. The door has than a Iron chain fixed on one of the side, which is actually a kind of lock.

image

These Iron chains were then put into the top wooden bars to lock the door from outside.

image

Looks complicated but it has the simplest of th door that were made in earlier days. Hardly any fixing issue. The adjustment is so simple that it took us hardly few minutes to dismantle. The first the doors were unplugged from the hook by pushing up. The the wooden bars were removed by breaking open the walls. Making it a 5 minutes affair.

Stay Calm....

Keep Steeming...Steem On !!!

I love vintage doors and hardware! The rustic nature of them is hard to beat! That and the fact that they just don't make doors like this anymore. This used to be the normal way of making them, now suddenly, it becomes only when you pay big bucks to make them look amazing!

Oh, the olden days were best for cool features. When did we stop making things that lived forever and changed to disposable everything?

Awesome post!

I hope you have a most amazing day!

!tip

I second this!!

I love photography of old wood and iron. There's something so stunning about it. You've really captured these beautifully, with the rich colors. I really love the iron chains against the faded paint of the door. You could frame that one!

Ohhhh that is the prettiest comment I ever had of photography. ...thanks @jayna for the lovely comment. Would definately try to frame...but we have plans to keep the door for another purpose...so we are not breaking them out

That is a wonderful door. Why did you dismantle it? What did you do with it?

Kind of renovation at home...but the door is not gonna wasted, we have plans to put them in use in a new space. Looking at so much love I am gonna make a post on it soon. Thanks @toddrjohnson

It's hard to imagine that you were able to dismantle the doors in 5 minutes. But then what happened to the walls when the 'wooden bars were removed by breaking open the walls.' ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Well we gonns close the space with bricks. We have certain plans. We only need to remove the top wooden bar corners and then pushing the doors up to dismantle...

That door is absolutely beautiful * ___ * It came from a time where the world was different, I'm sure.... aaah. The colours and its moulding are so wonderful, full with characters and glamour ! I am glad that you took it off its hinges with relative ease.... What a lovely post * ___ *

Thanks @veryspider a lovely comment adding more value to the dismantle door👍 ...yes it was made differently in the era when I was not born, still the door kept us protected and standing strong...

I am also enthusiastic about old things. I love their morbid charm.

Thanks @ikarus56 these were handsomely made with lot of effort considering it was all made manually during those times

Oooh that is gorgeous!!!! I love old doors like that! My mom often does paintings of old doors too because they hold so much character!!!

Yes indeed....they have so many stories. I loved to see the science in making these doors. Very easy though pretty heavy
