How do you overcome physical pain? Pain can either be complex or simple depending on the cause. However, the treatment procedure is chosen depending on the degree of pain, sometime it can be persistent where medical attention should be considered. Pain is not just a mere condition to treat which is why techniques and skills are required to make the patient overcome it. Pain management is done depending on the type of pain a patient is going through which is why in this article we are going to look at some of the various types of pains.
Types of pain
1. Neuropathic pain
It includes; irritable bowel, interstitial cystitis, complex pain, fibromyalgia and many others. In other simpler words, arm or leg pain can be categorized in this type of pain. Neuropathic pain can be divide in to two namely; somatic and radicular pain. Radicular pain stem from the irritation od nerve root, which goes all the way to the spinal. Sometimes you might be having a problem that originally is on your leg or arm but the pain extends up to the spinal cord. This shows that the pain is directed from the nerve root therefore, weakening and loss of reflexes to the nerve. Neuropathic pain can make your nerves numb or even tingle.
On the other side, somatic pain is felt and limited only tothe thighs or to at back. Back pain must be well examined where at time an x-ray is required to do so. Neuropathic pain is difficult to treat. It requires an expert who will be able to diagnosis the real cause of the pain and have the right treatment at hand, with a combination of all that there could be a great chance of reducing the pain.
Nociceptive pain
This is where a person has a broken bone or a cut, this is an easy one since it is directly showing the reason for the pain. When there is any tissue damage a person’s body, a signal is triggered through the peripheral nerves all the way to the brain via your spinal cord. This is how one is able to feel pain and sometimes it can be severe where treatment is recommended.
How to treat pain
This is done depending on the cause of the pain, the following are ways that as a patient you can be able to manage pain;
Physical therapy- As said earlier pain is triggered to the brain which is why after you get cut or break your bone the pain starts immediately. Getting physical therapy really helps, you can improve your movement after an injury.
Exercise-For example, if you are suffering from back pain, it is advisable to keep your body active and with that the pain will improve.
Psychological treatment- when you are going through much pain one may feel sad, angry or hopeless which is normal but with help it is easier to overcome the pain.
