Virtual Reality has been a promising invention into the tech world with the introduction of several new products and features floating all over the market. Virtual Reality or VR has been a game changer for the entertainment arena and specifically the gaming world. Ever since, Virtual Reality made it into the spot light several companies are competing to hit the top mark, ye the VR headsets are far from perfect based on the ergonomics and experience.
Scientifically, a human being is more absorbed into something that requires the coordinated movement of different organs and that is exactly what Virtual Reality is missing. Wearing a VR headset one immediately raises his/heads alongside the head movements and for this reason it has been marked as a hiccup in making the experience top-notch. Several rumors had been floating the market about different kind of devices and sensors including gloves, a joystick or even a remote that would be used for navigation and in-game movements.
A few days ago, Samsung and Oculus took a swing at this by unveiling the Samsung Gear VR, which is exactly similar to the one Samsung and Oculus had released in collaboration last year, with an addition of a Gear VR controller. According to several tech enthusiasts, the mobile VR may fall short when it comes to the graphics or the overall immersive graphic rich environment which the Oculus Rift or the HTC vive excel at. However, a better experience in terms of motion and movements in a virtual environment is what the Samsung Gear VR or the Google Daydream holds an edge at.
The Samsung Gear VR delivers compatibility with just a number of smartphones, similar to the version they had released last year. With the continuous improvements in smartphone displays, we will see how the Gear VR performs alongside the Galaxy S8 smartphones, which the Gear VR is rumored to appear alongside with, this year.
The Gear VR controller opens up a new spectrum for the interacting with the virtual environment. The Samsung Gear VR packs up a trigger at the very bottom, a trigger on the bottom for first-person shooting action games which is an amazing addition, a dedicated volume, back and home buttons and a clickable touchpad on the top. Samsung claims that the controller will deliver up to 80 hours of use if powered from a pair of AAA batteries, which most certainly is a turn off because there is no option for inbuilt recharging option.
Even though, the Gear VR controller is the first one to have made it to the spot light, we must lay emphasis on the features that we believe it is missing, for instance, a microphone would have been a great addition to the controller for interaction with team mates in an online game.
All in all Samsung and Oculus has taken an outstanding initiative and we expect other companies to take the competition further by adding the features they think the Gear VR controller lacks.
