#0006 - Virtual Reality - A New Way to Eperience Travel?

in virtualreality •  7 years ago

So, most of us have big travel dreams going to see places, visit countries, continents...

Given the improvements in digital capabilities and lots of virtual reality equipment becoming more readily available do you think it will change our holidaying habits or is there no replacing the warmth on your skin of the sunshine we often do not see in the UK for prolonged periods of time, nor for the feel of the rain in Paris or the power snow underneath you snowboard or ski's...whatever your preference for holidays might be.

It seems now you can see all sorts using the medium of virtual reality and even essentially reenact what you might do in these locations for example

  • you can climb Mount Everest using Everest VR
  • use google earth in virtual reality to test places out using Google Eart VR
  • fly over mountains checking out Tahiti using Digital Domain Teleport Tahiti
  • Use Under The Canopy to take a look at the endangered and conservation of the Amazon rainforests ecosystems
  • go on the Grand Canyon VR Experience which can also be played as a game.

I'm sure there are many more out there and these only just scratch the surface. For me though which it would be a cool way to explore and find out more absolutely places I would like to go and places I am travelling to, nothing will stop me from wanting to see places in person and experience the feel of what it is like to actually go there and experience reality no matter how good the virtual world is or gets to be.

I think it can open up a sort of travel for the majority of people in the world who may be able to get a mobile device and a cheap VR headset but who would find it difficult to impossible to actually travel to most places. I also think that VR tours will be an awesome way for children to learn both Geography and Social Studies in whole new ways. I think two way VR video (with interpretation capability) will change the world by bringing down the national, religious and linguistic barriers that separate us now.
