On today's session I continue with Virtual-Simon's blog, today's review covers Objective 2.2 – Configure Network I/O Control. You can find it here. Objective 2.2

In this objective we will

  1. Explain NIOC capabilities
  2. Configure NIOC shares/limits based on VM requirements
  3. Explain the behaviour of a given NIOC setting
  4. Determine Network I/O Control requirements
  5. Differentiate Network I/O Control capabilities
  6. Enable/Disable Network I/O Control
  7. Monitor Network I/O Control

This was a short objective so I also worked on VMware's Hands on Lab (HOL-1811-01-SDC - vSphere v6.5 - What's New)
The lab covers:

  1. vCenter vSphere Appliance management
  • Summary screen - includes health status, messages and the ability to backup, create a support bundle, reboot and shutdown.
  • Access settings - allow you to enable/disable SSH and the BASH shell
  • Networking - monitor or manage network settings
  • Time - Change timezone and time sync settings.
  • Update Screen - provides details of the version in use, any available updates, and the ability to check for updates.
  • Administration screen - change password or change password settings
  • Syslog - change all syslog settings
  • CPU and Memory - Monitor resource utilization
  • Database - Monitor database utilization
  1. VCHA - High availability on the vCenter appliance. This feature isn't available for Windows vCenter.
  2. PSC HA - High Availability for the platform services controllers. If PSC is embedded then they are automatically in an HA configuration if you setup VCHA.

During the HA portion of the What's New lab we were redirected to the stand alone HA lab (HOL-1811-02) which covers enabling HA for the vCenter Server Appliance. The active, passive and witness nodes are created and the VMHA network is configured. The 1811-02 module also covers monitoring HA, planned failover and additional operations.
