I shared something similar on my old account. Does anyone else have any furbabies? We currently have three. Two are 11. A Lynxpoint named, Leo & a Tortie named, Sabrina. 20 months ago, there was a post on one of the groups I belong to, on Facebook. A lady's circumstances changed & she needed to rehome her five cats. Which unfortunately happens sometimes. At the time, we had one kitty. Our first cat together. We also lived in a studio (still live in the same place). We weren't planning on getting another. We wanted to help her out, though. So we took Leo. Two others were adopted & two, including, Sabrina were being fostered. Seven months later, we took her in. Our first kitty, Tino (short for Valentino) had passed on the previous Jan. He was 19 1/2. We had adopted him from the shelter when he was four. Our most recent adoptee is a Tuxie named, Ferris. He's three. He was at the shelter where I volunteer.
I love all animals, but, I have a special affinity for kitties. I was born into a family that had cats. Many coming to us as strays or were adopted. I’ve continued that with my husband. He’s also always had cats. We've done some rescue as well. Haven't fostered yet. We want to seriously get into all of that. We have plenty of room in our hearts. Just not enough space where we live. We're working toward getting a home.
For many years I’ve wanted to volunteer at an animal shelter. Health & other issues kept getting in the way. Even though our situation isn't as ideal as we’d like, in June 2016 I decided I wasn't going to put it off any longer. I was going to volunteer. The next month I went into one of the orientations. It was on a Wed, late afternoon. That Fri I started volunteering. I spend time with the kitties. I'm the main volunteer. I take notes & pics to share with other volunteers & the public. I learn about the cat's personalities.
How many of them there are depends on the time of year. Half of it, there's usually only a few. Kitten season is upon us & we'll have a full or at least, an almost, full house. Tim, one of the kennel attendant's, said that some are being fostered & others are getting ready for that. Fostering helps socialize them & makes it easier to adopt them out. We don’t have to commit to a certain day or time (as long as it’s when they’re open), but, I prefer to have a regular schedule, so, go in on Fri's for a couple of hours. Some weeks going in on another day. I would like to get involved in other volunteer opportunities, down the road. This is my, living with purpose. What is yours?
