I've always wanted a dune buggy, ever since I was a little kid. All of my friends knew this fact. One night I had a buddy give me a call saying he knew someone trying to get rid of a dune buggy. I was pretty hesitant since everyone thinks that those atv/offroad type vehicles are "dune buggies". Just go on ebay or craigslist and search "dune buggy" and you'll find most results are totally mis-labeled compared to the real thing.
A typical dune buggy has, for the most part, been built on a shortened Volkswagen frame from the 1960-70+ era. The body has been taken off or modified and a fiberglas body has been put in place. Obviously there are exceptions but I don't really feel like going into the details. Nobody will probably see this anyway. Lol
It was 2011 and when I got that call, I didn't even think about it. I'll be there in 45 minutes. With a trailer."
I got there and, it was, BEAT UP! The floors were rusted out, the engine was questionable, and the tires were toast. I was told that the title was never transferred. Being 21 and in front of a vehicle that I've wanted since forever ago, those words when in one ear and out the other. I didn't care, I just wanted this thing!
There was a lot of work to be done and you can't think about it. You just do it.
I handed over the small amount of money they were asking.
It was mine!
