The Soul..the melting pot of consciousness and personality. Home of the faculties of intellect, emotions, the mind and will.
To build a foundation quickly, I will say every man (and woman very importantly) is led by something.
For some, its their bodies or fleshly faculties..the desire for food, drink, warmth, sex, and other raw sensual pleasures (for their own sakes and not for some emotional benefit). These will act just primarily because it feels good to the physical senses, casual sex, binge drinking, eating and lots of that 'fun'stuff. These constitute the overwhelming majority of persons at least at the youthful stage.
For a remarkable few, it is their spirits after it has been awakened and they have gained conscious access to its faculties and the possibilities inherent therein...following intuition, conscience, paranormal experiences, visions and all of that supernatural stuff.
The last group of persons are the "soulish" fellows who are led by their soul faculties. It could be their intellect:they desire to experience or at least understand phenomena to satisfy curiosity or at least imprint a mental "tape" of the experience; their emotions: they wanna "make love" to that significant other primarily because of fire burning in their hearts than the increased temperature in the nether regions; will: they wanna get that task done to see how far they can stretch themselves; they will act majorly because it stimulates the mind. Some of the great inventors belong to this category.
Each group of persons have their peculiar highs and lows..I will be talking about the individual who most times is soaked and absorbed in his inner self (not inner being, the spirit)..the soulish fellow. The soulish fellow is driven by his soul faculties and at some point in life becomes way too engrossed. This sometimes comes with a nasty consequence; a negative perspective or paradigm about life.
You see, from a fundamentally "boundary-scientific" point of view, everything in the universe is rapidly undergoing a procession towards more "pre-determined disorder"..simply put as increasing entropy..(nothing is actually random, each event can be explained provided you have infinite diligence and patience to do the neccesary explanation even if it means discovering totally different fundamental rules...compare classical mechanics, relativistic mechanics, quantum mechanics and quantum field theory,...OK let me not go deeper than that). This implies one major thing...increased uncertainty and difficulty of control..the single most formidable adversary of the soulish fellow. You see to the soulish person, "simple" things of life like becoming the life of the party, or talking to that super pretty girl ( I mean as a normal human being and not Athenia of mount olympus incarnated) are hell if he cannot create a logical sequential construct to control the eventual outcomes. "Complex" things like engaging in philosophy or seeing abstract relationships between phenomena (the physicists) and physically quantifying immaterial phenomena (the psychologist, philosopher) are a passion. Its all about having answers and control.
Given the fact that ascetic practices even if practiced unintentionally like deep thinking, meditation, ponderings, visualizations, internalization with the emotions; can enable man develop a real connection with the universe around him, the soulish man soon experiences this connection with the universe around him (often in out of sync with the "reality" of daily life, the marriage, money, status....ask Tesla), he may at first feel a sense of exhilaration of having found something "more" or "real"..but soon comes to the startling point where he comes across events whose rules of operation, If they exist at all, are simply beyond the reach of his understanding (not necessarily because they are complex, but because not all things are meant to be understood before they are experienced or indulged in..like having some serious, breathtaking, dangerous and exciting fun or taking life a day at a time with minimal worries or anxieties). This point creates frustration in the soulish fellow (especially the emotionally unintelligent) and he most often than not takes the route of blaming the universe, everything around me is at fault or indulging in self-pity, I am not good enough..both highways to negativity and consequently depression.
This plays itself out in everyday activities..like thinking too much of that nasty careless remark of that person that means something to you, excess absenteeism getting lost in thoughts or sulking too much about social caste systems (without doing much about it). This could be easily resolved by acceptance of things as they are and as they come; that remark was just a careless one a character flaw, social caste systems were not exactly designed with you in mind, life lived experientially is more impressionable than life imagined. Its Just about relinquishing control sometimes.
The fellow driven by his bodily impulses has no problem with this (accepting things as they come) as he does this without really giving thought. This sometimes has disastrous consequences (uninformed careless decisions) which he might come blessed with the bliss of ignorance of their existence (YOLO right?)..No worries.
The spiritually conscious fellow (not the one who has activated the latent power of the soul, like the monk who walks on fiery coals) on the other hand has learnt alignment with the "powers that govern the universe"(according to his belief system) and by means of surrender to these powers can be in harmony with "spiritual realities" and by access through these "powers" manipulate these "spiritual realities" to produce desired material outcomes and events..Its Power accessed by Surrender to a higher Power...ideally it should produce no worries.
The soulish fellow would be much better if he had learnt to take a cue from both ends (the spirit and body) creating a healthy balance of surrender or faith and acceptance of things as they are. There has to be a God with the answers you seek, but you don't blame him for all that went wrong, intelligence is power and with power comes responsibility. Man has a lot of intelligence, translating to power over the rest of creation implicating responsibility. Worries and anxieties are rarely productive, acceptance of facts are healthy..not everything can be quantified..not with the limited human faculties...
So while indulging your soul faculties....listen to your body..have fun, take that fancy trip, pray. You see , deep thinking could be boring which could be a turnoff or mysterious which is very appealing. DEEPression does not have to be the price for being deep.
I think I will take this too....I will be consoled to know I'm in good company.
Let's bridge the gap between the world in our souls and the world we create.
