What's your take on "The Black Panther"| Let's have a discussion 👇

As expected, people have expressed very different views about marvel's black history month release. What's yours?

Some think it's the greatest movie of all time and have decided to or actually seen it more than once. Some are indifferent and see it as just another movie, nothing special. While some, probably because they saw it after they had been subjected to so much hype from the news and their friends, think it was totally over-hpyed. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though.

4 days after the premiere at Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja, Lagos.

My personal review

Allow me to be a little sentimental, I'm African 😀. And here's my take:

To me, The Black Panther was more than just a movie, it was a revolution! A proud moment for all blacks especially Africans. The movie descriptively portrayed a modern, technologically advanced yet culturally rich African society. Maybe this is not totally true of my continent yet but it speaks volumes to the ignorant or perhaps negligent perception of Africa by some residents of other continents, especially Europe and America.

It was so sad to see a conversation of a Nigerian with a black American who actually thought we didn't have water here 😂. He literally asked the former how he was able to be on twitter! WTF!!! Some people still see Africa as a country... where people still live on trees and all that crap. Africa's development may be slow and uneven, it may not be on par with other regions yet, but it is definitely way past the stone age!

Now back to the movie, I really enjoyed how colorful it was, the costumes and tribal chants, the humour... I laughed so hard, so many times. I also think it was very thoughtful of marvel to release the movie in February, the Black history month. That added a lot of swagger and pride, and definitely more audience from the blacks, especially Africans.

I made two drawings about the movie too.

The cast was just amazing! My personal favorite is M'baku, that guy is just hilarious. Shuri was just so cute and funny at the same time. She sucked out T'challa's rigidness many times and brought out the fun in him. Nakia is the definition of a beautiful yet strong and spirited woman. Who agrees that Eric Killmonger is a very different type of villain? He may have gone through the wrong channel but his vision was surely not evil. Unlike the unnecessary wickedness we see in other movies, like who damaged y'all so bad. He actually made T'challa realize that he way Wakanda had been run for generations was not right, very selfish to say the truth. His plans were actually carried out for him in his absence, maybe with a more timid approach though.

To summarize, The Black Panther is very unique, and definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen. That's my viewpoint.

Black Panther was so needed! Powerful and empowering! Keep up the good work!

I definately liked it, if for no other reason embracing diversity, including alien diversity, is a wonderful thing to be coming out of hollywood. I am a mother of a four year old, so going to the movies is maybe once a month and I usually love anything I see just because I am getting to see Anything lol. That being said, the only thing throughout the movie that bothered me is why didnt they just secretly help the downtrodden? Why did the secrecy have to be taken to such an extreme? I was glad at the end when outreach was apparently going to start happening on a large scale.

You have a point there, I believe that was Killmonger's pain. They had the capacity to help others but were too selfish to act on it.
