Edafe and Martins are two good friends who live together in a one room apartment. They do virtually everything together (eat together, drink together, plan together, work together, etc.) They are both in 200 level in the university on a part-time (weekend) program. But, Edafe is in Business Administration Department, while Martins is in Industrial Safety Department. There are both from poor backgrounds, so they work as helpers in any available construction site. Finally, they graduated!

One faithful day, Edafe advised that it would be best if they travel to the United States to source for greener pastures since they've not been able to get good jobs for the past 4 years. Martins agreed but asked ''we could barely pay our rents, how can we source for the money to get tickets for the both of us?''. Edafe replied ''don't worry Martins; i will not go with you, but i we will source for the money together and i will sell the only land i inherited from my father.'' So, they worked and worked gathering the needed money. Edafe was working day and night just to make sure their plans are accomplished. Finally, they got the needed cash. Edafe's land money covered 90% of the money they needed. Martins, looking at Edafe's input, said ''Edafe, my friend and brother from another mother, i will never let you down''

Martins succeeded in travelling abroad, and fortunately, within 3 months, he got a job with one of the plastic manufacturing companies. WhoW!!! He was receiving $2,500 per month which is equivalent to one million, five hundred thousand naira here in Nigeria. He started Sending money to his girlfriend for her upkeep and also to build a house where they would stay after their wedding.
Three years have passed, Martins forgot about Edafe who is here working as a security officer day and night. To worsen issues, whenever Martins asks after Edafe, his girlfriend would say ''forget about Edafe; he is doing fine; Let's plan about our future''. Martins, the fool would just subscribe to her deceit. Most preposterous, is that Martins has Edafe's number, but would never bother to call or even flash.

10 years later, Martins was sacked and deported back home because he stole from his boss' office. That same week, Edafe got employed into an Oil Producing Company with a bountiful salary of N1.2million per month (two weeks in, two weeks out) with an official car and a personal duplex.
When Martins got home, he went straight to his so-called girlfriend, and discovered she built the house with her name and is already married with three kids. He went to court, but lost the case because he had no proof of ownership. He had no place to stay so he ran to the one room apartment he was living with Edafe, but found a different tenant there and he was told Edafe is now a wealthy man and also a philanthropist who helps the poor without looking back. Martins pleaded for a squat, but was denied. That day he slept under a nearby bridge. He searched and searched for Edafe's contact numbers but couldn't find it because he had deleted them long ago.
Edafe heard about his predicament but stayed mute.
Finally, Martins was able to locate Edafe's house. When he got to the gate, the gatekeeper gave him a note which stated ''i forgive you Martins. I am already in Dubai for a five year training course. Good luck Martins. It is best we stay apart''. Martins cried bitterly (saying ''had i known''). So he went back to his village and started working as a security officer for a village government school till date. Thanks for stopping by. God blessed federal Republic of steemit.

Martins is heartless and foolish. That served him right!

I lot of us are guilty of this ..we forget our grassroot buddies ,people that was there for us when we had nothing ,people that have their all so we could become something . I hope would learn a thing or two from this story ...
Awesome write up

You are on point. Thanks budy.

This reminds me of the age long adage that say, "Rain can force you to take shelter in the same hut someday, so don't think you cannot seek help from the same source. It can happen.

Nice one. Thanks dear for stopping by
