Feed birds in winter - You can help them to survive.

Once the cold season is installed, the insects disappear, the insects are the main food for birds, and the fruits of different shrubs and trees are over. This is the moment when we can give a helping hand to our winged friends.
We can provide them with various types of food, which we will put in feeders early morning, for to be found by the flemish birds which start early in looking its. We can offer them a serving and the afternoon, or fill the feeders with more food, which will reach them for several days.

Why we place the feeders?
During the warmer months of the year, the birds easily find food, both vegetal and animal. In the winter, however, the sedentary birds (those that stay with us permanently) and those who just sleep at us are often suffer hungry, this being one of the main causes of cold-season mortality among birds. In their quests, they often have to quit the summer food and look for other resources.

It is the time when birds around us can be helped by providing them with adequate food.

Feed for birds
What kind of food do we offer to birds?
Sunflower seeds are the best food for insectivorous birds.
Very suitable, but more expensive, are the hemp seed, the pumpkin and seed of millet (but the latter is less nutritious).

In the absence of these (or in addition to these),you can give to birds : high-ground corn flour (or maize), rice and oats (preferably boiled), boiled potatoes and carrots, other cooked vegetables ), (including battered or partially chopped apples) other fruits, walnuts, peanuts, leafy and dried berries, scorus, corn.
Some products of animal origin are very nourishing and appreciated by the birds: bacon (not be smoked or salty), pork lard, boiled meat (eg the one left on the bones of your food), boiled egg, cheese. etc

Important!
Do not give them salty seeds, because salt is harmful to birds. Equally harmful is bread, which is not recommended to be part of the wild birds diet, biscuit or any other confectionery-based products. Also, do not feed them with food for dogs and cats or other pets. It is not healthy for wild birds and, in addition, will attract in the area owl, crows and cats.
