Today I thought it would be nice to show you a bit of where I live. A small mining town called Kearns.
Don't blink or you'll miss it.
My home town is part of another town called Virginiatown. It takes both towns combined to make a population of about 300 people, in which together makes the McGarry Township.
The town was built in mid 1930's based upon the opening of Kerr-Addison gold mine. Much of the buildings stayed the same but resulted in being torn down if no one owned it. Some houses were renovated as the years went on and some well... It is passed due.
We don't have a lot of services in my town. We have a gas station... A very old and messy gas station.
And we have a restaurant and convenience store within the restaurant. My parents own the restaurant and I help out from time to time as a cook. I enjoy making good food.
The place is no longer called Armando's, that was when the place used to be a bar. My parents never bothered taking it down. It is now called The River Valley Restaurant.
Here they serve mostly fast food like fried chicken, fries and poutines, hamburgers, pizza etc. Mostly because that is what the people want on a daily basis. Gotta go with the demand. We used to make fancier meals but the demand for it decreased. We keep the really good food for special occasions now.
In Virginiatown(which we will now call V-town), we have a fire hall, post office, a clinic, a school that holds about 20 children and in the northern section we have an arena that is basically used for gatherings, events like weddings, meetings and even the Country Jamboree. I did not feel like walking the 2 km distance to take those pictures due to the injury of my ankle, so here are some that I have taken from the http://www.vtownhistory.org/
This is an aerial view of the northern part of Virginiatown(call this one North V-town). Here you can see the water tower that took over our spring water and to the right of that is the arena.
This is another aerial view of the other section of V-town. (North V-town and V-town are not really connected.)
You see the building with the turquoise roof? That used to be where we would hold curling competitions, but this building is no longer there. It was burned down.
You see that big white space at the top of the picture? That is Larder Lake. Probably one of the main reasons why people live here.
This town is big on hunting and fishing , skidooing and 4 wheeling (quads). We are surrounded by forests and lakes which makes this place a tight community.
I end this walk with me with the pictures here of Frankie trying to climb on top of the snow in hopes to get to the trampoline. And this beautiful shot of this pinecone I spotted beside me. I had to put it in black and white, it was just so beautiful that way.
Thanks for reading in on my walk and information on my little town. Enjoy the rest of the day ^_^ xx
ahhh, little towns. My hometown is small too, but def not that tiny!
Lovely wwm <3

We definitely need a vehicle here to get around to the things we need which is unfortunate. But we are fortunate in many other ways :)

Come spring I will write about mining here, there is a nice trail to walk with the kids. Ya that water tower was built when I was a kid. Now it's full of chemical crap. You can smell the chlorine in it. I think it's time to get out the water thingy Danny has and start collecting spring water.

Have you ever watched Gilmore Girls? Your beautiful little berg reminds me of Stars Hollow, and now, come to think of it, you look like Rory. I love it! Does everyone in town know each other really well? Do new people ever move in? I'm just curious....it's so quaint and cozy. What's it like living there?

I have not watched Gilmore Girls, but so much talk about it from different people I think I have to now lol. Pretty much everyone in town knows everyone. I keep to myself a lot so I don't know people so well. But apparently everyone knows me! LOL. Just in this town I have 4 cousins, 3 of them with children, 6 aunts, 5 uncles, my parents, sister and brother in law with their children and my mother in law and with her (new husband). I had more aunts and uncles in town but they moved away for various reasons. So just my big family, we make up about 12% of the population lol.
What's it like living here... um well, it is quiet. I am more north so we have long winters, sucks in some ways because of short growing seasons and lots of snow means a lot of work. Collecting wood for heating, shoveling the driveways and entrances, shoveling the roofs etc. What's nice is that we have a lot of trails. There is not much to show from the trails during the winter. They kind of all look the same lol naked trees and a lot of snow lol. In the first picture in the far back, you see a mountain. That is Cheminis Mountain. It is nice to climb it and enjoy the view from small lakes to lots of forestry. During the summer... BUGS! Bugs love me lol. We get good amounts of blueberries and raspberries that grow here and there. We have bears, foxes, moose to watch out for. We used to have more deer and lynx but they have become scarce.
It is a place for people to have hobbies to indulge in because it is a quiet town. We have to travel for everything needed.
Sometimes people buy houses here like if they were cottages lol, we get more and more people from the south coming in to buy houses. That's pretty much it :)

You are so right! It does doesn't it? In the first aerial pic, you see that road that is darker than the rest and the trees behind it? That line of trees by that road is all gone. The government had decided to move the highway that goes through the towns (on the same picture the highway is the road on the bottom) and make a new one that attaches to that dark road. The reason being is that it could cave in because of the underground tunnels of the mine. The weight from the vehicles and tractor trailers create more damage to the road. So the government doesn't want to pay for any damages if there were any sinkholes on the road. But what of all the house that are sitting on top of all those tunnels???
