Sundays are usually the only day when we can get out and do something together as a family in the daylight - unfortunately, Sundays are also the only day when we can sleep long, Sundays are the only day when my wife can spend long time on making breakfast for the whole family, Sunday mornings is the perfect time for my wife to spends hours chatting with her family on Skype ... unfortunately we're a slow, slow family. This Sunday the plan was to get out early, do some skiing in the forest, then meet some friends of us in the afternoon for a museum visit. Yeah, right. I sort of already blew it by wasting time on steemit until very late Saturday night. My hope to get out of the door at 10 got crashed as I slept until 09:30 ... and eventually my wife was ready only around 13:05. A quick discussion of where to go skiing in the car ... well, our planned place is no good for a 20-minute skiing trip with the children, so we ended up skiing in the park nearby the museum! Yeah, why not.
It ended up quite badly. The worst thing was the snow - it was mildly humid snow, the kind of snow that is perfect for building snowmen ("kramsne"), but it tends to stick to the skis and even build up while walking. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if the skiing track in the park would have been prepared recently - but it wasn't. My 7-years old son very soon grew mad at the whole situation, though my 4 years old daughter had no problems at all - she was really enjoying the skiing.
Another thing that wasn't such a big problem today, but could have been - they throw lots of small rocks on the walkways to prevent people from sliding, and eventually the skiing track is crossing the walkways every here and there - to not make scratches in the skis, it's prudent to take them off and on again, but that may be a lot of effort, particularly when having children that cannot do it alone. However, today there was so much snow the rocks weren't a problem - some few rocks visible every here and there, but I think we managed to get through without scratching the skis.
Later we had a great day in the museum, when the museum closed we built snowmen on the outside. My daughter was a totally happy camper, though my 7yrs old son only wanted to go home and play computer games.
Horrible skiing trip, but after all it ended up being a quite nice day.
This park - Frognerparken aka Vigerlandsparken - is famous for all the statues depicting naked people.
When looking at the map, my gut reaction was to go right across this small "lake" ... but the ice seems a bit unsafe indeed.
All those padlocks on the bridge ... that's not originally a Norwegian tradition, but it seems to have gotten a hold here as well.
Lots and lots of snowmen to be seen in this park on this day
Difficult to go skiing, when the skis become like this - and just like snow balls rolled over the snow gets bigger, those patches of snow also tend to grow when going skiing.
After going for a while, there is like 30 cm of heavy snow attached to the sole of my ski.
Electric cars, and particularly Teslas are quite popular in the Oslo area due to heavy subsidizing and free access to the bus lanes. I don't think it's quite fair, it's big subsidies going mostly to the upper middle class and higher. While the electrification does solve the tailpipe emissions, there is a whole lot of problems it doesn't solve - the current policies encourages people to drive a car, while it would be better to encourage people not to drive cars.
Super beautiful, cold but beautiful. I do miss the snow but only while I am snowboarding.
