The Ledger Nano X features support for a huge range of cryptocurrencies, including Cardano. Here’s how to get the most out of your wallet.

Since Cardano (ADA) support was added to the Ledger hardware wallets back in January 2019, Cardano holders have been waiting for Ledger Live to be updated allow the creation and management of ADA wallets. However, Ledger is yet to release this functionality more than a year later.
As such, if you want to benefit from the security of the Ledger Nano X and manage your Cardano, you will need to connect your device with a third-party Cardano wallet, such as AdaLite or Yoroi Wallet. This guide will get you set on your right path.

Before you begin: You will need to have an initialized Ledger Nano X hardware wallet, plus the Cardano app already installed on your Ledger device. To learn how to install apps to your device, click here.

Use the Ledger Nano X with AdaLite

Update your Ledger Live application:

  1. Ledger Live
  2. Ledger Wallet
    (1) To begin, connect your Ledger Nano X to your computer, unlock the device and open the Cardano App.

**(2) **Head over to the AdaLite web wallet and under where it says “How do you want to access your Cardano Wallet?” Select the ‘Hardware Wallet’ option.

    (3) Select the ‘Unlock with Ledger’ option on the right.

    (4) Your browser should then display the following prompt. When you see this, check your Ledger Nano X device, and confirm the prompt to export your public key.

    (5) Once done, you will be able to access your ADA and manage your balance directly through the AdaLite web app. Note, however, that you will need to keep your Ledger Nano X connected, as you you will need to sign off on any transactions using your device.

Use the Ledger Nano X with Yoroi Wallet

(1) To begin using your Ledger Nano X with Yoroi Wallet, you will first need to download and install the wallet, or add the Yoroi Wallet plugin/extension to your browser. These can be found on the Yoroi Wallet website.

Make sure your Ledger Live is up to date.

**Download Ledger Live Updated**

**Tip: **If you plan to transact with Cardano you will need to install the mainnet version of Yoroi Wallet, whereas the testnet version can be used for staking Cardano.

(2) For the purposes of this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to connect your Ledger Nano X to Yoroi Wallet installed as a plugin on Firefox, but the process is practically identical regardless of which way you choose to access Yoroi Wallet.
Once Yoroi Wallet is installed, select your language and agree to the terms of use.

**(3) **Connect your Ledger device to the computer running Yoroi Wallet, unlock it and open the Cardano app. When ready, select the ‘Connect to hardware wallet’ option on Yoroi Wallet.
Select ‘Ledger Hardware Wallet’ on the next screen and then click ‘Next’.

**(4) **You will then be shown a screen asking you to confirm that your Ledger Nano X has the Cardano app open, once ready, click the ‘Connect’ button. This will open an additional prompt asking you to select your Ledger device type, select ‘Ledger Nano X’.

**(5) **Yoroi Wallet will then present the screen above. When you see this, check your Ledger device screen and confirm the public key export by pressing both Ledger buttons twice.

**(6) **Lastly, you will be prompted to choose a name for your wallet. This is simply the name you will see when logging into Yoroi Wallet. Once you click ‘Save’ you will be redirected to your new Cardano wallet, and will be free to manage your funds.
