Isn't it time for the American government to remember & act upon the wise foreign policy advice given by President George Washington during his presidential Farewell Address in 1796?
He recommended that the USA should "avoid foreign entanglements".
Sadly, to want America to mind its own business in foreign affairs is widely and blindly denounced as "isolationism".
The spectre of Munich & appeasement are routinely invoked as a reason to intervene abroad.
Yet not every questionable or even bad situation overseas is another Munich, nor does it warrant American intervention every time! Surely?
US motives, as in Iraq, Libya, Yemen & Syria are highly suspicious & US intervention, whether clandestine or open, by military, intelligence, or other means just makes any situation worse.
The think tank consensus, generally & benignly falsely flagged as "internationalism" & more honestly known as "interventionism" deserves a thorough, honest review of its global meddling since WWII. Perhaps the time has come to shelve the example of Munich & appeasement as a guide for American foreign policy & to adopt a new Global Good Neighbor Policy based on the refreshing idea that America doesn't have all the answers to all the world's problems & that America should mind its own business?
Would that be such an alarming thought? I do believe that Trump won his election on that very promise - or was I imagining that?
The essence of the wise foreign policy advice that George Washington gave in 1796 was to attend to domestic affairs & let others attend to theirs.
Maybe the US should wise up & recover from it's strange case of amnesia.
