The prophets warn us: Do not act like the other nations, who try to read their future in the stars

The Babylonians and other peoples of the Middle East were known in ancient times for their knowledge of astrology. But the Bible and all the prophets warn us that this is not the correct way to access to the knowledge of the future or the mysteries of the universe: "Do not act like the other nations, who try to read their future in the stars. Do not be afraid of their predictions, even though other nations are terrified by them" Jeremiah 10:2.
According to the Sacred Scriptures the way to access the mysteries of what is hidden is the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, stability), because the Lord reveals himself to those people who love him with devotion: "Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets" Amos 3:7.
Those who turn to fortune-tellers to communicate with the dead or to obtain a special advice about the future risk of being deceived by false people: "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them" Leviticus 19:31.
In addition, God's judgment falls on those who abandon him and his covenant: "He repays everyone for what they have done; he brings on them what their conduct deserves" Job 34:11. King Saul was punished by God in the Bible for abandoning the covenant by turning to pagans for advice and not to the lord: "Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and did not inquire of the LORD" 1 Chronicles 10:13-14.
We live in times where everything seems to have its price, where everything is bought and sold, but as in the times of the prophets, the gifts of God such as mercy, piety, are with us to point us where the truth is, there are no magical solutions, those who resort to divination, to astrology, in search of answers only find beautiful words.
