In the European Union Dänemark leads the Ranking with 747kg / Person a year. The average is 481!!!! kg/Person.
Let the number 481kg/Person go through your head. Really bad to thing about it!
Btw, the average value in the USA is 760kg/person!

How does garbage arise?

Since there are people, there is waste. Things that are no longer needed, no longer eatable or broken, end up in the garbage. In the Stone Age, the matter was still simple: a large pit provided enough space for all waste.
Meanwhile, the amount and composition of our garbage have changed. In today's throwaway society, we're producing more and more garbage and many things we throw away can no longer rot naturally. Some waste, like batteries or electronics, are actually poisonous. They must be disposed of properly so that the environment and health are not overburdened.

What is a throwaway society?

Furniture, dishes, toys, clothes, books, shoes. Our home is full of beautiful and useful things. But what once used to last a lifetime is now being bought over and over again and, as soon as it breaks down, simply thrown away. While it used to be a common practice to mend clothes, repair furniture, shoes and toys, and even pass on some of these pieces, much is much more likely to be bought new than used. "Repair society" is the name of a way of life in which more things are restored and passed on than discarded. In contrast, we live today in a "disposable society". Things we do not want anymore, because they are broken or we do not need them anymore, just go to the garbage.
