A tale of water scarcity

We all have listened to this phrase from childhood, 'water, water everywhere, not a drop to drink' unfortunately it is true for half a billion people in the world. They struggle every day for a half bucket of water. Water scarcity is not a new concept but the world is facing it from ages. In 2019, the World Economic Forum listed it as a global risk for the next decade. This picture is of Shri Ram Jai Jai Camp located in New Delhi, India, set up in the early 1990s by migrants from Bihar. last year I with my team visited this camp for the survey to find out the major problems faced by the women's and the result was totally different from what we have imagined. It wasn't about sanitary napkins or education but it was more about water and sanitation. They don't have easy and timely access to the water. There were only two water tanks for the whole camp (population of about 1500-2000 people), they have to stand in the long queues waiting for hours for their turn, fight for it and there are times when they don't even receive their daily water supply due to mechanical issues. this is just a tale of one slum there are more than 863 million people who live in slums, imagine the problems they have to go through.

We are privileged to have easy access to the basic needs lets not misuse it. Before wasting a drop of water just think about the person who will stand in a queue for hours from a bucket of water. I know we are not the government, we cannot work towards the water management policies but all we can do is to save a little bit every day. Every single drop counts, maybe we have today but who knows about tomorrow, use it wisely.
