Don’t Lose Your Wrench!

Folks, we are dry up here in the north!

We had a couple of storms or so that brought us drenching rains at the beginning of June. We’ve hardly seen much rain since. Our yard is scattered with big cracks.

Surprisingly, my garden is doing well. And it’s not because I’ve been watering it every day (because I haven’t.)

According to the Big Man, in our area, this is how you know we have just the right amount of moisture. (Hmm, I’d like some rain please!)

Where the dog house was last year. Needs a little TLC.

The Old Man (Big Man’s dad) said back in the 80’s it was so dry, that if you had equipment to work on, you worked on it in the shop. You didn’t want to risk dropping a wrench down a crack or you wouldn’t see it again until it came up with the frost in 200 years. I guess a person could stick their arm down the crack and not even touch the bottom!

Well, they are predicting some severe storms for tomorrow, so we’ll see what happens. How is the weather going where you’re at?

SE WI/ NW IL is getting soaked as of late.

I’ve been noticing that! I keep my eyes on the radar often, and not just on my area alone. It seems like the rain goes all around us like we’re in a bubble lol.

Not sure why the pic is loading sideways, but this has been our weather in Virginia for the past few weeks! Some days with rain, some days without!

Sounds like a good mixture! I don’t mind the rainy days myself.

howdy @hebrewhousewife! hey how far are you guys North anyway?
Well here in Texas we've had 100 degree days for a week and next week looks similar so the ground is baking and cracking here also.

Those cracks look like ours, they do get to be about 5 or 6 inches across!
here's what one of our ponds look like:

we gonna have to start prayin for rain.
God bless you guys up there!

We are way up there, quite close to Canada.
My sister lives near San Antonio, and I’ve visited her in August a few years back. Oh man, I could not be outside unless I was in water. I don’t know how you all stand it.
I’m guessing the pond used to be all the way to the top?
My husband always says, “Don’t ever pray for rain, pray for a good crop.” Because once you ask for rain, it never seems to quit! That was 2016 for us.

lol! yes you go from one extreme to the next and opposite!
that's so we don't run out of things to complain about.
enjoy the short summer while you can though..and as far as the weather here, we're NE of Dallas so it's not even close to the humidity of those guys in San Antonio. I'm like you, I don't know how they do it. they say they get used to it but who'd want to?
Did your family start out up North and just your sister moved down to TX? and if so, why? lol
my take on the weather here: 3 brutal months of heat, then the rest of the year it's heaven!

My favorite time of the year is spring and fall, cool and crisp. Of course, if you blink too long, they come and go before you even notice. Up here, we have 2 seasons: winter and road construction.
Yes, we grew up here. My sister was previously married to an Air Force man, which led them to TX.

winter and road construction. lol. because the roads get tore up all winter and then repaired all summer. yeah we lived in Northern Ohio for many years. did you ever think about moving a little farther South so that you could enjoy more temperate weather?

We had rain yesterday here in OK, hope you get some soon! But I have never had a green thumb, so a garden is at risk here, LOL! :D

Lol! I haven’t had much success the last few years either. However this year is turning out pretty well!

Glad to hear it! Hang in there, harvest is coming! :)

Days and days of rain...now it is time for days and days of 90 degree weather with lots of humidity!!!

That does not sound like my kind of weather! I am thankful for A/C for sure!

Here in Ecuador, it does not go without rain for one week it rains a lot here. Sometimes it rains every day of the week without stopping .

Oofta! I don’t mind rain, here and there, but every day would get tiring I would think!
