HostGator or Bluehost?
The fact is there are too many choices to make when putting up your new website. HostGator and Bluehost help make it a little easier for anyone from a beginner to a pro. Unfortunately, the answer to one question is in itself a question, so which one is right for you? I intend to list an overview of why someone would go with one over the other and include my personal choice as to which one is the best.
Ease of use: They both include a free domain name upon sign up. HostGator includes a 45 day money back guarantee on all products, whereas Bluehost offers a 30 day guarantee on only the main subscription. Bluehost and HostGator use MOJO marketplace to install wordpress and 140 plugins that can be added on for a price. However, HostGator has an additional over 190 free one click installs through Softaculous. If you already have a website that you would like to migrate to one of these two applications, it is possible, but Bluehost will charge you $149.99 to do it automatically whereas HostGator won't. HostGator makes web creation easy with its built in site builder that uses over 100 templates and section builders. Bluehost offers more choice to build it with MOJO marketplace or its built in builder using Weebly. Overall, HostGator is more user-friendly and especially beginner-friendly.

Security: They have both partnered with SiteLock to get access to powerful malware scans. They both offer SSL certificates, but HostGator will have a domain-validated and Bluehost a shared. HostGator offers more for additional costs. They both will provide automatic backups for your website. Bluehost offers daily backups, but if you want the same from HostGator you will have to pay extra. Bluehost has built in DDos protection but can not warn customers of an attack ahead of time. HostGator has an extensive custom firewall that they claim keeps their customers completely protected from attacks. All in all, Bluehost will take a slight edge in the security department especially with the daily backups.
Speed and Uptime: Bluehost shared hosting plans come with SSD, and their server infrastructure is powered by enterprise level SSD database storage. HostGator does not include SSD in their shared hosting plans, but their MySQL servers are stored on SSD hardware. HostGator promises 99.9% uptime as part of their service guarantee. Bluehost has tier 3 servers, and they project 99.98% uptime. Their servers use quad-processing. They have an uninterruptible power supply and a backup generator. They both use CloudFlare which uses a global network to route traffic to your website. They both perform extremely well with their speed and uptime.
In conclusion, you can't go wrong with either of these for web hosting. I did not cover it above, but both of their customer service is outstanding. There are subtleties that help weed out which is for whom, but it isn't always clear what is right for you. For those that are still just starting in this space, I personally believe HostGator will provide slightly better advantages. That 45 day money back guarantee is a big aide in that decision. For those that know what they are doing or are somewhere in the middle, Bluehost is most likely for you. It offers more where it counts as you can see for yourself.
