Waiting on the Birds

A couple of short checks on how things were progressing at a couple of spots we like, and to see if there were any early bird arrivals, so far no migratory waterfowl, but I am sure they are not to far away. First stop The Kenai Public Boat Launch Facility and Wildlife Viewing Platform.

Viewing Platform scope resized.jpg

Not a very large viewing platform, but plenty of room for a family of six. There is a small bench for dad's to sit on while the rest screech and holler at each other my turn.. The spotting scope cost nothing to use, and does bring the mountains and boats and wildlife in for a close up view.

Here in this Pano you can see you have a lot of area to look at through that spotting scope.

Big Picture

It is not quite the pretty season, we are still in winter meltdown, the snows are dwindling fast, and the ground is getting pretty mushy, soon there will be fresh new grasses out there and all manner of waterfowl.

Our next stop was the Kasilof Beach Area. Here it is very easy to get to the beach and drive on it if you do not mind occasionally getting stuck in the sand if you are not careful. This is a good beach for shell collecting, not so much for rocks or agates, but lots of other things to find. Also a good place to watch the seagulls fly and play and the occasional Eagle also. It would have been nice if we had better light, the flat light of mid day is kind of blah, but still I like this shot and hope to make it back to re-create it with a sunset or sunrise. Limited time to do that so hopefully with in the next month and a half.

Here is the unedited shot but resized. This is the top of a large metal float ball. There are about six or seven of these on the beach, I haven't really counted how many, more than 1 and I think less than 20, so 6-7 is a good guess.

Like the Kenai River and its tidal wetlands the Kasilof River also has some tidal wet lands This summer there will be geese and hopefully some swans and other migratory birds to get some pictures of. The mountains in the background are the southern part of the Chugach Mountains and these are referred to as the Caribou Hills. Some where in that area I think is Exit Glacier, a hopefully early summer trip for us.

#wednesdaywalk is bought to us by @tattoodjay here is the link to this weeks viewing, from him. So drop by and take a look.

All pictures were taken by me with my Nikon D7500 Camera with standard 35 MM lens, and taken on 4-3-2019, yes today, these are hot off the press, a few quick edits, but nothing major. Caution advised on viewing the Pano Shot, not super big like some I have done, but still a good size.

Lovely beach photos! I can't wait to see what summer looks like up there! I think the birds are on their way to you. I've seen a change in the bird species down here. Unless they get stuck in traffic, you should be seeing them soon!

Nice early summer beach photography.
