For Wednesday Yellow, I give you 2 matryoshkas; one traditional lady brought back from St Petersburg by a friend, and one I hand painted myself because I couldn't find a Miffy matryoshka - and that delightful rabbit deserves her own matryoshka. My friend (who is Russian herself) told me that the round lady is shaped that way because the matryoshka is often used a symbol of fertility. I'm hoping any future children don't come out fully formed and in traditional dress, like some sort of creepy homunculus that wants to feed you borsht.
