How to wash a weighted blanket

Step 1: get the blanket ready

First check if your blanket has any stains. If yes, then it is advised to remove those by running some cold water on the stained spot and use a toothbrush to clean the fabric. You can also use some delicate soap to help clean the blanket.

Step 2: Wash your heavy blanket

You can wash your weighted blanket in different ways, depending on what is suggested on the blanket's tag.
Usually, those blankets can all be hand-washed: the process is quite long and tedious, especially due to the weight.

Hand Wash

To hand-wash your weighted blanket you can use your bathtub:

• Put the blanket in the bathtub
• Add enough water to cover the blanket
• Add some delicate soap
• Rub the blanket with your hands or more simply, walk on it with your bare feet inside the bathtub.

Machine Wash

If your blanket is machine washable, then you can simply place it in your machine and select a gentle wash with cold water. You should use only gentle soap without bleach or any other aggressive chemicals.

How to Dry a Weighted Blanket

The best way to dry a weighted blanket is by flat dry: this will preserve your blanket from losing shape.
If you can't flat dry, then you can hang dry it, however, this will reduce the lifespan of your blanket and it may also lose its shape.

• Find a large enough surface: this could be on a large table or, more simply, on the floor.
• Lay down a few large towels to soak in the excess water.
• Lay the wet blanket on top of the towels and wait for it to dry.
• You may have to replace the towels in a few hours if they soak in too much water.
