You know what's really fun? Imagining what kind of weird creatures are out there. Never mind looking as far as outer space, which i am sure is completely infested with life. No, we need not look any further than our own back yard, planet earth! Won't you join me on an adventure?
Destination, the hidden corners of the earth. Objective, to discover new critters :)
We all know that the oceans of the world remain mostly unexplored, but what about all the jungles, mountains, and other harsh terrains that do not exactly encourage exploration? What about all the undiscovered caves beneath our feet? How many secret places do you suppose still remain unknown? If i were to venture a guess, it would be a considerable amount. So with all that uncharted territory the question stands, who lives there?
Earth's history is riddled with tales of strange beasts, mythical beings, and tons of other oddities. Most of these things remain in the realm of myth, and are unable to make the leap into accepted reality. Bigfoot, the loch ness monster, ogopogo, el chupacabra, rakshasa, the list goes on and on. *Sigh* So much mystery, so little proof. But does that mean none of those things exist? Could there be others that would challenge our imaginations? After all, truth is so often stranger than fiction. So just what exactly is out there? What denizens dwell in the depths of the deceptive deep?
Once upon a time the giant squid was just a legend, nothing more than silly tales told by drunken sailors. Now we know for a fact that they exist. When marine biologists first saw a coelicanth, they were astonished. It sent ripples of shock through the zoological world, as it did not resemble any other fish they had seen to date. It didn't take long before it was pronounced a "living fossil." Even the silly looking duck billed platypus was a newcomer to the zoology scene, one that appeared so outlandish that many thought it was a hoax. Now we know it is a real animal and not some mad cryptotaxadermist's project.
New species are being discovered all the time! Just do a google search for weird animals and you will not be disappointed. Remember, truth is often stranger than fiction, and there are still plenty of places left to explore. It really makes me wonder, what other creatures are out there?
