Love this poem, though while sailing, the wind actually pulls the boat forward, rather than pushing it.

Counterintuitive, I realize, and not something that even a lot of casual sailors would know. Still, an excellent poem.

Thank you for the comment. Counter-intuitive or not, It's actually one of the more interesting comments I have received. I love to learn stuff and this is fascinating. Pulling you say? It's rather confusing to why it is being pulled rather than pushed or a combination of both.

It has to do with wave motion physics, which applies both to water and air movement. The short version is the wind creates a low pressure area ahead of the sail, which draws the boat forward to fill the void.

My former husband and I bought a Morgan sailboat in the 90s, and one of his high school buddies was a professional sailor, who had literally sailed tens of thousands of miles in his twenty odd years of sailing. When he realized I had an interest in the technical side of sail handling, he gave me one hell of an education, which I couldn't have gotten otherwise.

That's interesting. Life is interesting like that; we learn from the people we meet and from our experience more than from 'formal education'.

We do indeed.
