Road trip - To the past or the future?

Heading on a road trip down south of Perth towards the Margaret River areas. For those of you who know, Margaret River is one of the best regions for wine and growing of sorts. There is great sunshine, great air and of course great people to make the magic happen.

On this trip however, we will not be having much wine. We are in fact going behind the scenes to talk with some farmers on their life, lifestyle, hopes and dreams for the industry.

Farming is not always an easy job and every season and harvest brings great risk and great rewards. The agricultural and farming industry has been viewed by banks and financial institutions as a high risk zone. Not often are farmers given the same business opportunities as one who was looking at a more "traditional" business like say food and beverage.

But how traditional can one get in terms of probably the oldest way of living. Back before Wi-Fi there were the hunters and gatherers. We as humans settled down into communities and started growing from what we hunted and gathered. Farming was a quick way to hunt as we reared animals for their produce. And growing was a sure way to gather what we needed in food supply, raw materials for clothes and building materials.

So why do we exclude the agricultural and farming industry from some considerations and why is it high risk? Is it because of the fast aced world we live in? Or is it because of the expectations that we must get a certain result that we view any other results as a bad outcome.

I think we need to change by revising our views of the world. We need to come back full circle and see the world with new eyes.

Cheers!!
