From the 19th century until the First World War, absolutism was quite "famous" in Europe - Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and Russia accepted the fact that only one person should be in power.

Absolutism ended in Europe after the Russian, German and Austria-Hungarian empires fell after the First World War.
Today, absolutism is quite scarcely found everywhere in the world. There are still a few countries in Europe, which are absolute (Vatican, Monaco and Liechtenstein), but more of them are found outside Europe (Oman, Qatar, Bahrein, Bhutan, Brunei).
