Why is my account losing value?steemCreated with Sketch.

So, ever since I discovered this wonderful platform, I have been using it as a means to collect $ in order to fund my idea for a non-profit organisation. I have been at it for months, dropping a new story in the jar, like pennies for a rainy day. It has been fun watching the value of my account escalate to over a thousand bucks worth of crypto currency! I was super proud about this, telling every one I knew that I had managed to collect over a thousand bucks for my project! <3

And then, it began to hemorrhage...

Every day now, despite all the posts I make, my account has been dropping in value. It is now well below that sweet one thousand dollar mark, and it has me super bummed. Why is my account so rapidly losing value? I have been making posts every day, and they have been successful (if you count making any little amount of $ a success...) So what gives, how can it be losing value?

This is so saddening to me, because now I wonder if I can EVER get enough to make my non-profit idea a reality. It feels like there is a black hole in my account, eating all my efforts...

Yeah, it's definitely not just you. It's everyone. The value of my account went down by about $2,000 since the beginning of last month, and the value of my posts and comments, as well as how much an upvote from me is worth, changes daily. I'm pretty sure that's all tied to the value of Steem, which changes often, just like other cryptocurrencies. So, while it's down now, it can easily (and probably will) go back up again.

I had recently hit that sweet 1K mark. SO frustrating -_-

I know it is. I hate seeing the value of my posts and account go down. But, they will likely go up again, when Steem's value goes up again. Hang in there, @robotlizzrd.

I will hang in there, thanks :)

The main reason is that the value depends on the steemvalue in general. A cryptocurrency is unstable and changes in worth rapidly. The same is happening to everyone.
Also another thing is that steemit distributes the income you are making with posts and comments to other accounts.
Why? Well, everyone has to be paid, it is like communism in the digital world.
Don't worry about it too much, a comment of mine made about $22 worth of upvotes and it decreased to $14 on one day and is increasing and decreasing by the minute. This is just the system. Nothing we can do really.

Everything felt somewhat stable a few weeks ago. And then BLAMMO! Steemit got hit by the evil bitch fairy.

You are not only the victim of this everyone here is having the same problem. It might be because of the steem value, which changes often.

Hoping it goes back up soon, it is a bit demoralizing to see your efforts being eaten by black holes.

It's realted to the value of Steem. The market decides. Must be like that or it has no value at all.
