When I was in my lucrative basketball career, I made a SH*T ton of Cash!
Mullah, dinero, clams, what have you... I had too much to count, and plenty to spend. I never checked my bank statements and I surely didn't care about credit.
People used to ask me for money!
Until it was all gone...
Yup millions. Spent!
But on what you might ask?
ITALIAN SPORTS CARS
The dream of all young boys is to grow up and own 1 of these sick machines. But once you make the money to afford 1, you realize you need to have 3.
With a price tag of $250,000 into the excesses of 1mil+, this hyper depreciating asset will most assuredly consume large sums of wealth.
But if the sticker price doesn't shock you, you must not forget the cost to insure something of this magnitude. Which typically falls into the range of 1,000$+ per month and isn't something you can easily afford without a nice bankroll each week.
But cars are cheap; I could have had 100 of these beautiful creations in the height of my success. The next one is what really takes a toll.
BLING BLING
You can't be rich without looking the part, right?
Gold, platinum, diamonds, and rare gems are everything a successful person needs and I was no exception. Personally buying enough to be fit for a king
Earrings, necklaces, bracelets and more
Watches in the $100k range...
I had 1 for each day of the week
You have to keep up on styles when you’re rich, sometimes donating old pieces to friends to clear out space. With a 1000% markup on fine jewelry, why even bother trying to resell it.
But Bling was cheap, pocket change. It was common for me to visit a new jeweler every other day.
During my time on top I made millions for many years and had the time of my life
But between the Cars and the Jewelry, and the many other luxuries I consumed during my successful career in basketball, I never saved anything.
Once my leg went, I was forced to retire, and at 35 I was job-less.
My millions were gone within a few years, like a poof of smoke, gone.
The cars repossessed
The jewelry taken to pay creditors
I'm 40years old, un-educated, broke and in debt. Without skills, I work at McDonalds for $9 an hr.
Keep an eye out for other reasons why I became broke
