Wildflower series ~ Miniature Morning Glory

Xenostegia tridentata.jpg

A small creeper belonging to the Convolvulacea or morning glory family, Xenostegia tridentata subsp. angustifolia is another plant that needs to be photographed in the morning or midday because the flowers close in the afternoon. The latin name angustifolia refers to the slender leaves which are unlike other morning glories although the flower is typical. The flower has two variants: some have a dark purple centre and others are plain yellow, like the one above.

This plant is widespread in Africa and has a variety of different medicinal uses in different areas although in Southern Africa, it is used to treat stomach conditions. The plant contains compounds that have been shown to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.

Very beautiful flower, like a little star.

It is more of a circle when it opens fully, just difficult to photograph at the correct time

It's more than just a beautiful little flower, it looks like one of the stars fell from the sky and landed close by.

You commented on how the poem was written :-))

I really liked this flower !!!

Somehow, we all like yellow flowers

Yes it is.
Maybe because they have the color of the sun? :-))

So pretty this yellow flower.

Indeed

See? This is why I enjoy your posts. Another little flower getting some admiration.

I do love morning glories, the purply, blue invasive ones I’m not allowed to grow. I admire them on the side of the roads...😐

Pretty sprinkles of sunshine from you today. ❤️

Thanks!

Very tiny flowers! Very cute.

I still cannot find my local morning glory flowers here, only the leaves.
