Nara's Wild Deer and the Special Bags to Protect Them

in wildlife •  2 years ago

Wild deer are one of the main tourist attractions in Nara. The animals can be fed, but only with special unsweetened crackers. Visitors often break this rule and feed the reindeer with food they have brought with them, and leave the packaging of it - usually plastic - in the park. The animal might find the package and eat it, mistaking it for food. The park administration decided that this situation can no longer be tolerated, and invented special bags. They are made of rice bran and wood pulp from recycled milk cartons.
