Grass Mantis

in wildlife •  7 years ago

Originally I thought this was a grasshopper but realised looking through google images that it was actually a Grass Mantis (Archimantis latistyla), also known as a stick Mantis. Brilliantly camouflaged into a tuft of grass, it really was a great find. They keep very still for long periods to ambush prey as it moves past, seizing prey with their strong forelegs.
