For almost three decades, the 'Solitaire' of Windows has served as a perfect tool to kill boredom, precisely in those moments of solitude in which a bit of distraction is sought. Well after having been a finalist for two years, this 2019 the 'Solitaire' is finally being honored as a new member of the Hall of Fame of Video Games.
Microsoft's 'Solitaire' first appeared in Windows 3.0 in 1990, and since then it has been one of the most widely used applications in the history of the operating system. According to Microsoft, the 'Solitaire' has been translated into 65 languages and every year over 35,000 million games are played each year in more than 200 countries around the world.
'Colossal Cave Adventure', 'Mortal Kombat' and 'Super Mario Kart' too
The Strong National Museum of Play of New York unveiled the four new members of its prestigious 'World Video Game Hall of Fame', which today has great legends such as 'John Madden Football', 'Tomb Raider', 'Final Fantasy VII', 'Sonic the Hedgehog', 'Grand Theft Auto III', 'The Legend of Zelda', 'The Oregon Trail', 'The Sims',' Space Invaders', 'DOOM', 'Pac-Man ',' Pong ',' Super Mario Bros. ',' Tetris' and 'World of Warcraft'.
The twelve finalists for this 2019 edition were: 'Candy Crush Saga', 'Centipede', 'Dance Dance Revolution', 'Half-Life', 'Myst', 'NBA 2K', 'Sid Meier's Civilization', 'Super Smash Bros Melee ',' Microsoft Windows Solitaire ',' Colossal Cave Adventure ',' Mortal Kombat 'and' Super Mario Kart ', these last four being chosen to be part of the Hall of Fame.
According to the museum, the four new members "significantly affected the video game industry, popular culture and society in general," and although the four are very different from each other, each has been relevant in its own way in its segment .
In the case of 'Mortal Kombat' and 'Super Mario Kart', to this day they are still extremely important franchises and present in the consoles of the current generation. Just remember the recent release of 'Mortal Kombat 11', which has received such good comments; and the case of 'Mario Kart', which is about to debut on smartphones after its passage on the Nintendo Switch.
Perhaps the least known is 'Colossal Cave Adventure', and we are talking about a video game created in 1976 for MS-DOS without graphics and based solely on text. It was an interactive fantasy adventure, where we had to choose the steps to follow to solve riddles and find treasures, and that served as inspiration for other titles such as 'Adventureland' and 'Zork'.
