If it is still showing errors then run Chkdsk X:f/X/R to scan and repair file

SFC Scan
It is not only the external hard drive that is causing error, files missing in the system could also be the reason that makes hard drive inaccessible

Follow the same steps to open CMD as administrator
Now type the command SFC/ scannow in CMD window and click on the enter button
This will repair the system files
Now Restart the device and open external hard drive
