๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Wine In Review: Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (California) ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท

Unimpressive.

I've stated in previous reviews that I don't believe that I have a great palate. I'm never going to be selected to write for a major Wine magazine or lead a tasting since I lack the sophistication and expertise these activities require. But, hey; I know what I like and what I don't like. And I really didn't care for Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon. I wanted to, but I just couldn't get there...

Clos du Bois is a good wine producer. Their Chardonnay is a top seller. I have enjoyed their Chard on several occasions and found it a solid offering. And when I bought the CabSav, I was ready to be impressed. I expected it. But like Geraldo Rivera opening Al Capone's secret safe, there just wasn't anything inside to get excited about...

Clad in a light filtering bottle, the label is cream with a wine-colored block design trim set in a delicate arch. With a gold grape leaf and the initials CB at the top, the label is simple, yet elegant. Upon tasting the wine, simple remains. Elegant catches a bus for Denver, apparently...

The reverse label claims 40 years of French inspired winemaking. I found nothing French about it other than the spelling of the name. The nose was of blackberries; ripe and dark. Simple.

The color was a dark purple. I'll throw them a bone: the complexion of this wine was very nice. There is a depth here that suggests complexity that I do not often see. But again, it's like a thick smear of rouge on an otherwise nondescript face. The promise doesn't meet the delivery.

Jammy blackberry was the one, fairly overwhelming flavor that my taunted tastebuds turned out. And that was it. Just jam. I kept waiting for the complexity to arrive but it just didn't. The Cabernet seized simplicity like a fat man grasping a donut. It hung on and just wouldn't let go. If the purpose of wine was to showcase one flavor, and one flavor only, Clos du Bois would win an Olympic Gold Medal.

The tannins were boring. They raised a hand like hailing a cab and then stuffed it back intro their trench coat a moment later. Like my High School Prom, nothing happened. That was it. Dress up. Parade around a bit. Then, goodnight!

I've generously affording Clos du Bois Cabernet Sauvignon two glasses of out five. ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท. There was nothing bad about it, there just wasn't anything good, folks. Even a cheap, poor quality wine has more character than this one. Give it a try yourself, but be prepared to entertain yourself some other way...

I have just one more wine review left in the backlog so I'd better get busy popping corks. I hope you enjoyed this review, and thanks for reading!

Cheers!

Honestly its best to stay away from wines labeled California. The vineyards used could be from anywhere in the state, defiantly not the good ones, unless its a expensive bottle and they used fruit from the best appellation from the state. YOu want your wine to be more specific on where it from. Not saying there is good wines to be found that are very cheap.
