Wine Review: Main Street Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (California)

Back to California with this latest wine review. From our Limited Reserve bin I present the Trinchero Family Estates' Main Street label Cabernet Sauvignon. Located in St. Helena, California, this value wine returns us to our nation's best grape growing region, the Napa Valley.

The label's simplicity is deceptive towards the liquid inside. A rather clean, modern design, the label depicts a road sign with the winery's name as a raised seal. Dark browns and cream suggest the arid California countryside of this particular region.

A blend, Main Street is crafted from several grapes grown in the Napa Valley. The rear label suggests a generous, rewarding experience, although so did my first wife... Let's find out!

Upon uncorking, Main Street Cabernet offered an earthy, dry aroma of plum, cherry, and leather. A deep rich purple in color, the wine looked smooth if not a bit frothy. I let it sit for a moment to rest before taking the first sip.

Cassis, cherry, and earth predominated the taste. Fairly dry, this wine offered a long finish that was not unpleasant. Lightly acidic, the tannins were moderate leaving my palate feeling refreshed but not immune to future taste as some stronger tannin-filled wines might do. I thought this would pair well with red meats, chicken kabobs, or other moderately strong entrees, or cheeses.

All in all, Main Street was a nice wine bit not necessarily a big hit. I found it somewhat devoid of character when compared to other cabernets. There simply wasn't anything standout about it although I would probably buy it again if it were still under $10. I'd relegate this one to my Buy Cheap list if I were looking to have a glass while sparing my budget from higher priced offerings.

At $9.99 Main Street is an every day offering with an every day level performance in taste. Although it is pleasant and drinkable, I'd rate it a second tier choice, overall. We give this wine a Two Glass rating.
