Wine Review: Conquista Malbec 2015 (Mendoza, Argentina) 🍷🍷🍷

We go back to Mendoza, Argentina for this silky Malbec, one of my favorite wine varietals. Viña Conquista, of the Uco Valley wine growing region of Argentina, produces several varietals including Chardonnay, Merlot, and Torrontés.

A dark purple bottle with a lighter shade wrapper, the label is a rough edged parchment paper with a decorative scroll.

A brief narrative offers a history of the Spanish Conquistadors who conquered the region and an explanation of the origins of the pronoun Argentina, which originates from the Latin word argentum meaning silver.

The reverse label details more history of the Conquistadors followed by a brief description of the wine growing area and the description 'spiced red plum' wine inside.

A very dark purple, this wine pours easy and drinks smoothly. My tasting suggests a much stronger raspberry flavor with mild spice. Certainly plum, definitely slight cocoa; earthy and silky smooth. I drink many Malbecs and I would call this one fairly mild on the typical boldness factor that Malbecs usually offer. Delicious, if not top notch.

The beautifully decorated cork stopper surprisingly states in the French language: mis en bouteille, or Estate Bottled. The Malbec grape was transplanted to Mendoza from France in the late 1800's.

As I have stated before, I am a simple cook. I enjoyed Conquista Malbec with a Chuckeye steak, yellow potato, and steamed corn. The Malbec was a nice compliment to the beef, standing well against this ribeye type cut. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and at $11, not a bad option for a cold winter's night.

I'll rate Viña Conquista three glasses out of five since I was ever so slightly disappointed by the level of spice involved. Even so, this is a totally drinkable option, versatile, and enjoyable. 🍷🍷🍷

As always a good review. I tried this wine and agree with the assessment. This is a quality basic young Malbec. Cheers!

I’m starting to crave steak and Malbec. Lovely review again my good friend. Check out what I just opened. I’ll have a review up soon.

Ooooo..... That looks pretty nice! Look at the raised design on the bottle... Fancy! Looking forward to that review!

And thank you for your nice comments, sir! I expect that you and I will one day dine together: Waitress? Bring us beef and red wine!

I'll need to finish my write up in the morning. It's quite late here and I need to be all bright and bubbly very early.

Check out that colour though. It's impressive stuff.

Beautiful, vivid hues... 2010, eh? That looks to be a well aged vino...

And nice glasses. I need to buy a new set...

Get some rest...
