Wine Tasting: Baleia Wines
IMG_2385.jpg

When traveling on the main road between Albertina and Riversdal, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, you come across the Baleia Wine Cellar. This wine cellar is very small and produce only 7 wines. They offer wine tasting on the premises and you can taste 6 of the 7 wines they produce. On the photo below you can see their wines as well as the price in Rand per bottle or glass. ($1.00=R13.00) The wine which you cannot taste is the 2015 Tempranillo. You will note the first 3 wines has peoples names as they were named after the owner's children.

Below you can see my wife and I tasting the 2014 Chardonnay, it is a bit on the dry side for me, but if you look on the wine list, this wine won a number of awards!!

Below you can see the reception area, and behind the glass door there is some wine storage tanks, everything is done right here and you can look at what is going on through the windows - nice!!

They brought us this spittoon (fancy name for spit bucket), but who spits out wine, you have paid for?? Certainly not me, I want value for money!! Needless to say the spittoon was unused after the tasting!!

Below is the Sauvignon Blanc, also a wine that won some awards!!

Below is the Rose, with a nice pink color. This wine was more to my wife's licking.

Below you can see some barrels of wine as well as a terracotta container for aging wine in, this is apparently something new and they only have this one currently, but there are some more on order.

Below is the Pinot Noir and as you can see on the bottle, this wine has won a large number of prizes. You will also note the decorative spittoon in the background!! LOL

Below is the Shiraz, which I liked the most of all the wines, it is quite a smooth type of wine. This could off cause be because I tested all the other wines before, and the more you drink the better the wine tastes!!

I am not really a wine lover, but this was a very enjoyable experience, which my wife and I enjoyed a lot. It is quite interesting to see and taste all the wines. I preferred the red wines to the white ones, to me they just taste better.

I took the photos during my resent vacation at Jongensfontein, Western Province, South Africa by using my iPhone.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Thank you so much.

Very nice wine review. I wish we had more South African wines in the US, but it seems that most of the good stuff stays there. Cheers from @steempub-trail and friends!

You can always come over and get them here!! We have a large number of wine farms where you can do tasting and buy directly from the cellar!!

Enjoy travel

Yes, I enjoy to travel.

Hello @rynow,

This stunning experience reminds a famous quote:

Sounds right to me!!

fantastic photography & wonderful experience. impressive post @rynow

@resteemia

I am sure she limits herself to only one glass of wine a day!! LOL

Nice it looks and a lovely photo :)

Thank you very much.

I have become more and more of a wine drinker over the years, not necessarily because I like wine more than beer, but because of how beer makes me feel quite bloated after drinking it. I still do treat myself to a beer now and then, but just for overall health reasons I tend to default to a nice red wine. Also, wine is a lot easier to brew than beer, so there's that too. :)

Nice comment, I still prefer my beer, but under the right circumstances wine is nice.

its good review of taste of wine.

Thank you so much for the nice comment.

@rynow,
You are the beer man and now I can see you are tasting wine as well :D Great work and you made me feel it's time to wine! At this middle of night no way :D Thank you very much for sharing such great experience with us!
