The apostle Paul in his missionary journey to Jerusalem arrives in Miletus and addresses the leaders of the church of Ephesus in these terms: "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ´It is more blessed to give than to receive.´", Acts 20:35.
Paul reminds the church of Ephesus that entering the kingdom of God is living the gift of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness, benevolence, benedicence, amiability). Mercy is ethical friendship, that is, it is friendship with those who cannot return our efforts: "we must help the weak", that is to say to help the widows, the orphans, the sick.
The wisdom of Lord Jesus reminds us of a few teachings about mercy: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful", Luke 6:36; "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy", Matthew 5:7.
Mercy is one of the spiritual gifts or the most relevant aspect of communion, the ethical order of the society, happiness and joy are born from life in common: "All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had" Acts 4:3
In communion the goods are at the disposal of the common needs: it is more edifying, it is happier to give than to receive; communion is general, collective mercy; that is, when there is no law other than mercy among men, the correct social order is born.
The kingdom of God is inside and outside of us: "For the kingdom of God is already among you", Luke 17:21. The kingdom of God outside of us is communion, but the kingdom within us is the constant search for mercy.
