King Solomon teaches us in the book of Wisdom that wisdom is not a virtue but a spiritual gift, in other words, we can all learn wisdom, wisdom is the knowledge of the correct means to live, but wisdom itself cannot be taught, "God is the wisdom itself" explains Thomas Aquinas, and then continues, "to speak of wisdom is to speak about God ", wisdom is a supernatural gift, a perfection of God:
"Therefore I prayed, and understanding was given me;
I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me." Wisdom 7:7
Wisdom can be taught only in part. The wisdom is a different virtue from all the others for many reasons, as the Book of Wisdom explains to us:
To achieve wisdom is to achieve the likeness as such with God:
"For it is an unfailing treasure for men;
those who get it obtain friendship with God,
commended for the gifts that come from instruction." Wisdom 7:14
Wisdom is also the source of true wealth in man, the origin of all bliss, being rich in its true expression is being rich before God:
"All good things came to me along with her,
and in her hands uncounted wealth.
I rejoiced in them all, because wisdom leads them;
but I did not know that she was their mother" Wisdom 7:11-12
Wisdom in the bible is considered a form of intelligence:
"May God grant that I speak with judgment
and have thoughts worthy of what I have received,
for he is the guide even of wisdom
and the corrector of the wise.
For both we and our words are in his hand,
as are all understanding and skill in crafts." Wisdom 7:15-16
Wisdom is also the access to the ultimate mysteries, the mysteries of life and death, of what happened and what is about to happen:
"For it is he who gave me unerring knowledge of what exists,
to know the structure of the world and the activity of the elements;
the beginning and the end and middle of times,
the alternations of the solstices and the changes of the seasons,
the cycles of the year and the constellations of the stars,
the natures of animals and the tempers of wild beasts,
the powers of the spirits and the reasonings of men,
the varieties of plants and the virtues of roots;
I learned both what is secret and what is manifest,
for wisdom, the fashioner of all things, taught me." Wisdom 7:17-22
