Every now and then there's people that make such an impact in our lives that we carry them forever. Today I wanted to share with you a gentleman named Dave Fish.
I met Dave about 10 years ago and something he said to me has stuck with me ever since. I have reflected on his words hundreds of times and found them quite useful. As for my purpose in sharing this, I hope that I can spread his words and you can find it useful in your life.
So, about 10 years ago I was in a competition. The competition went on for about 10 days. By about day 5 it was very clear that I was emerging as one of the top leaders in the competition. Dave caught me bragging about my success when he uttered these words that will never leave me. Dave said, "Here's a humble pie. Fill your mouth with this and be satisfied."
The moment he said that I became quite angry. I felt like he was stealing my moment. I felt that I earned the right to run my mouth. At the moment I didn't understand what he was really getting at, so I stayed quiet and thought about his words. Believe me when I tell you, Humble Pie doesn't always taste good, but you will be satisfied.
However, now I realize that Humble Pie built my character, built my persona, and made me a better person. It kept me from saying things that I regret. It created bonds with people that I would have hurt. It allowed me to choose my words more wisely & other people have came up to me wanting to be more humble themselves.
So I want to thank you Dave and challenge everyone else to eat a slice of humble pie and be satisfied.
