Muggle Picks Saturday Round 1

Inspired by this tumblr post and given permission to not only make this game but inspired by the post creator to call it this, here's Muggle Picks!

The idea behind this was that my roommate, who knows I practice witchcraft but does not do so himself, picked from my stash of witchy items at random and I had to make a spell out of those ingredients. Everything from how many ingredients to which drawer or box he had to pick from was decided by random dice rolls, as well as the wax color and how many extra ingredients I got to add of my choosing.

For this week, my roommate chose.....

Peppermint, some fake fall colored leaves, cotton balls, metallic googly eyes, citrine shards and black glitter. Not shown is the yellow wax that was also chosen, and I was given up to 3 additional ingredients to choose from I chose only a taglock (some of my hair).

So, the final result was....

A glamour jar! One to make a person feel good about themselves and look as good as they feel to other people. It contains the following;

  • Peppermint - Something I associate with many things, but most importantly for this jar transformation. Helping to transform into whatever you've set the glamour up for, specifically.

  • Cotton balls - Soft and squishy, often used for self-care and makeup and so great for glamours.

  • Taglock - Hidden in the cotton balls, basically just to make the spell more personal. Also used hair instead of something like spit because I wanted my hair to be included in the glamour too.

  • Gold leaves - The color gold is associated with the sun, and I chose those over the more red or orange ones in the jar for that very reason so that the glamour can be helped by/made more effective in the sun because my primary use for a glamour is when I would be out and about in the daytime.

  • Black glitter - Unlike most who see black as a 'bad' or 'evil' color, I associate it with protection. A goddess I work closely with has black as one of her main colors, so when I use this color in spells it's meant as a sort of blessing from her to help keep me safe.

The topping is a yellow colored wax, where yellow is often associated with the sun and happiness and serves the same general purpose as the gold leaves. The citrine chips are in the top, infused into the wax, and citrine is a stone that can dispel negative energy to help enhance the glamour by turning away negative eyes or helping to make the spell stronger for those who might have a more naturally negative view.

The final touch is the googly eyes that I hot glued around the outside. The eyes face outward, but represent eyes that may be looking at me. I chose again the gold/yellow color with them, so that they have a similar association with other dominant colors in the jar and are capable of helping in those regards.

Honestly, this was an interesting and fun experiment and I plan to do more in the future as long as my roommate is willing to help out. He has zero clue what I associate with any of these elements and picked at random from drawers and boxes containing 8-10 or more separate ingredients. It was a challenge to stare at them all together and try to make a cohesive spell jar, even with my pick of other ingredients, but I did enjoy it.

Want to be a part of these little experiments? I'll happily give you guys a chance to pick the places my roommate has to pick out of! Just comment with any numbers that follow this sequence - 1 or 2, 1-4 followed by 1-8 for each of the 1-4, and 1-4 with 1-6 for each of the 1-4, 1-15, and 1-4

So for example, a sequence may look like 2 - 3, 7, 4, 6 - 2, 6, 3 - 12 and 4. All these numbers correspond to places my roommate can pick ingredients out of, what wax color I use and how many extra ingredients I get to pick to add. I'll happily take sequences and credit the person who gave them to me in the next post, or if no one comments just do like we did this time and have some dice rolls :)

Oh, it's a witchy mystery box challenge! Cool idea.

It has been a cool idea so far, indeed. I'm liking that my roommate just picks crap at random and has no idea how any of it works and then I have to shove it all together and try to form a coherent spell.
