Top 100 Steem Witnesses by Number of Votes!steemCreated with Sketch.

in witness •  7 years ago  (edited)

If we each had equal voting power, what would the top list of witnesses from steemit.com/~witnesses look like? Currently witnesses are ranked by the votes based on how much Steem Power every voter has. This means a witness vote from an account with 1,000 Steem Power is worth 1,000 votes from accounts with 1 Steem Power! That said, every single vote is VERY IMPORTANT because those with more Steem Power are influenced by votes from those with less!

Will we vote at https://steemit.com/~witnesses because we feel most included in the community after voting?

Wait what is a witness?

Witnesses are among the most powerful users in our community! Witnesses build the blockchain for Steem processing all transactions and creating all new Steem along with deciding on which updates to apply and more. Will you read the full guide I made at https://steemit.com/witness-category/@jerrybanfield/steem-witness-basic-training because it explains what a witness is in more detail and has exact steps to get started as one?

Top 100 Steem Witnesses

View the list of the top 100 witness list at https://steemd.com/witnesses.

Where can we find the number of votes for each witness?

We can find the number of votes by going to this site: https://steemdb.com/@jerrybanfield/witness and switching out any username in place of mine! For example, https://steemdb.com/@jesta/witness.

These are the stats for my own account and you can see on the "Votes Received" tab that I have 331 votes which I am very grateful for within just the first month of becoming a witness!

To calculate by the number of votes, I made the system shown here and collaborated with @gmichelbkk to make the entire list!

Top 100 Steem Witnesses by Number of Votes

This table shows the rank of each witness by number of votes for the top 100 witnesses.

My witness account is actually ranked 61, but it would be ranked 55 by number of votes, which is a difference of -6.

Thank you very much for reading this post and learning more about witnesses here on Steem! Would you please vote for witnesses today at https://steemit.com/~witnesses because our witness votes pay out over two million dollars a year with nearly all of that going to the top 20 witnesses? Each of our votes is critical in deciding our future here based on our choices for witness who have the power to accept or reject updates, reach the Steemit team more effectively, and make influential upvotes with the Steem Power earned!

The system with witnesses seems at a so much higher level in comparison with the bitcoin mining; it's like the transition from the horse to the car from the technical point of view...

You are doing exceptionally well at no.55 , you will reach top 30 very soon.. Good luck!

@hms818 thank you very much I just realized you are a witness too and gave you my last upvote!

Hi Jerry, you've got my Witness vote for this post.

We have been debating in the Homesteaders Slack group the last couple of days whether witness votes were SP weighted or not.

Your post clears that up for us. Thank you.

Although most of us were hoping it wouldn't be SP weighted.

Buy more steempower I guess... 😉

PS You the link wrong in the first mention of @gmichelbkk in your post. You have missed the second k on both - but the second link is okay.

PPS Can we see the full spreadsheet you made with @gmichelbkk of the difference between total votes v weighted votes for the witness list? (shown at the top of your post)

Am I missing the link in the article somewhere? It is teatime so I am bit hazy at the moment 😎

Thank you very much @pennsif for helping me fix that!

@pennsif thank you for helping me edit the post and learn how it was useful for you! Thank you for voting for me as a witness at https://steemit.com/~witnesses

You're welcome. Anytime you need help with editing let me know 😊

Thanks for getting the spreadsheet in there - very interesting.

What if we start following each other liking and commenting so we all start making money toghether!?

I am already following you ... Ya te estoy siguiendo

Over one month on steemit, still dont know the know the roles of Witness on steemit... Or how to vote.

Please take a look at quickstart guide and frequently asked questions. When you are ready, vote for witnesses.

Thank you @gtg for posting these guides here which were very helpful for me and motivated me to vote for you as a witness!

Thank you :-)

I remember I have voted for @gtg @good-karma @jesta

Thank you :-)

You welcome :)

Aftab I voted for each of them as well! Would you consider adding me to your existing votes also because I would appreciate it?

Sure @jerrybanfield, you are the one whom I saw on facebook and joined Steemit. You are the one adding value to Steemit, for sure you will be voted and supported in every field by me dude :)

Voted you dude :)

We can vote just one time to one witness in our 30 votes?
Tell if we can vote more I will vote you more :D

Opps I nearly pasted my Account password, pheww thank God I didnt :D

Well I want to share some ideas too.

Maximum of the Steemians do not know about it at all, and I know maximum of them are just newbies or the ones not active. Steemit should remove their voting power who is not active, and also give voting power to those who participate in the community actively, and voting power should be given to those who has at least 500 followers and active.

Very interesting how the witness voting works! Thanks for sharing @jerrybanfield you have my vote! I will make sure to vote again :)

Sincerely,
@joeparys

Superb....keep posting nice comments like this.

Joe thank you for voting for me as a witness! The best part about witness voting is that doing it once lasts indefinitely!

What if we start following each other liking and commenting so we all start making money toghether!?

@jerrybanfield ...Absolutely Informative post. You have a great command and understanding of Steem Stats. Most importantly the way you put them across for the presentation, make them more interesting to read. I believe witnesses too have a crucial role to play in making steemit a better community with each passing day.
Cheers!!!

Thank you @amitsharma!

You are welcome! @jerrybanfield

you have my Vote Jerry - keep climbing

@xgrosz thank you!

In DPoS, S is for Stake, not Sybil ;-)
That being said, I agree voting for witnesses are very important for security and reliability of the network and every single vote does matter.

Thank you @gtg for the upvote on this post and congratulations on the #1 witness spot!

Rookie Question.... What's a witness?

I am also wondering what is a witness. As far as I know, I can vote for 30???

Yes, up to 30. Every vote is with same power that equals all your stake (Steem Power), no matter if you vote for 1 or 30. Of course witness voting doesn't affect your voting power.

Thanks for the comment, you have my witness vote @gtg

Thank you :-)

Just did a write in ballot for @jerrybanfield
edit: for witness

@otage thank you for making me your sixth vote for witness!

Nice, another interesting post Jerry B!

Thank you Tomas would you make your first witness vote today at https://steemit.com/~witnesses because participating in the voting process helps for feeling on the inside here? If you want to vote for me, just type my name in the box!

@jerrybanfield Could you please help me what is witness and how its influences Steemit..?

Please take a look at quickstart guide and frequently asked questions.

@gtg thank you for these guides which were very helpful for me and motivated me to setup a witness!

Thank you for explaining @jerrybanfield sure will go through the post.!!

The number of votes doesn't matter for the ranking, but the amount of VESTS the voters have.

Exactly which makes it interesting to see the difference in quantity of votes versus the actual results!

You can also see how the current witness votes add up graphically for the Top 50 Witness Votes and Lower Ranking Witness Votes.

@steemreports outstanding tools I just discovered your website today and will be showing a lot more about using it in future posts!

Thanks - that's great!

very educative post. thank you Jerry

Already voted for ya Jerry, just cause you bring tons of value to the community from day 1 :)

Thank you @stackin!

NO, Thank You :) haha

This is INSANELY interesting! @jerrybanfield... done and dusted, you have officially got my vote!!!! #55.... pffffft! There is a song from the 80s...hehehehe

Own it :) hehehehe!!!

I got a leeeeeeetle frustrated today with, well, CHAOS! lol, so yes - hence my post...

Thought I would share.... https://steemit.com/life/@jaynie/about-that-inbox

oh... and one more "old school" song for you and your vote... hehe

Stay as awesome as you are!

@jaynie thank you very much for voting for me as a witness and sharing your new post with me!

I checked https://steemd.com/@jaynie to confirm because sometimes entering a witness in the box results in an approval followed by an unapproval. Would you try it again and enter it once and then check at the SteemD link I just gave you to make sure the vote went through? This same thing has happened to me several times also which is how I thought to look!

@jerrybanfield just checking in to see if my vote DID in fact go through... From what I can tell it did...

Yes it is there now thank you very much!

good stuff :)

This is a masterpiece.

oh dear!!! on it.... will revert soonest... wonder what happened :/

@jerrybanfield Please check now... I voted again and if I check on the https://steemd.com/@jaynie that you shared just now, it does show my vote... on my side anyway... can you confirm?

Great post @jerrybanfield ! Now I finally learned about the witnesses and casted my first votes. You're definitely one of them. What you've been doing for the Steemit community is amazing!

@jerrev thank you very much for your kind feedback here and making me one of your first witness votes along with @gtg, @good-karma, @jesta, and @timcliff! What a compliment to be among those witnesses!

Great post Jerry ! ;) Upvoted

Thank you Mark would you please also vote for me as a witness at https://steemit.com/~witnesses because your vote there once is good indefinitely?

Mh.. When u look at the statistics you posted, then there's not many people voting.

Yes, unfortunately only 10% of users. Usually voting for witnesses is more common among heavy weighted users as they have much more to lose if they vote for wrong people or let others do that instead.

Voted for you. J

Thank you :-)

Yes only @good-karma has more than 1% of accounts voting for his witness so far while 90%+ accounts have never made even one vote for witness!

Voting is important. I voted for you @jerrybanfield as I have the impression that you bring good value to the community. Thanks J

You will have mi first witness vote :)

Thank you very much @doloresreyes!

Jerry, what are your views on people posting your youtube videos here on Steemit without your permission?

@sqamemal I welcome anyone sharing my YouTube videos here and earning rewards on sharing them!

vote for the good

nice stats thank you and some good explanations in the comments too!

@jerrybanfield you are interesting to watch :))) keep the great work with the videos :)

Great post @jerrybanfield

wow we really couldn't thank you enough for the content we can't find anywhere you really deserve all the fame you got in here in such a very short period you became a whale. bless up @jerrybanfield steeeeeeeeem on

I am new to all this and probably don't understand, but if your saying that the top 20 witnesses get 2 million dollars a year does that mean steemit is building an online society in which the rich get richer and the poor get poorer making it an online clone of a totally rigged society that has existed forever on this planet?

I was hoping that Steemit would build a fairer system such that everyone could prosper and become more free in life, thus enabling everyone to live better happier lives.

What qualifications does a witness have? if they decide what updates are applied, is it just another online popularity contest?

Then only whales can make money on steemit ?

Thanks for explaining about voting. I didn't realize you could vote for multiple witnesses, so I've been putting it off. But no need to procrastinate now. Just voted for you!

Glad that @good-karma is number 4 on the list. He is the first witness I voted for and the only witness who has been continuously supportive to me.

interesting analysis / @paulag would be interested in checking this out I'm sure

So how many witness votes can one cast? Thanks Jerry!

From 0 to 30. Please take a look at quickstart guide and frequently asked questions.

Jerry I think you are doing a great job promoting this amazing platform and believe you are worthy of being a top witness. I bought your courses for life and hope to be a leading Steemian like you in he near future when I can dedicate the time. I love you you're awesome.

how can I reach there?

hey i have 1000 steems how can i transfer on my steem account.?
anyone..?

Nice stats!

thanks for sharing

Thanks for the great info.

I just followed you! Great feed! Upvoted :)

I kinda understood what a witness was but not really. This article and your other one https://steemit.com/witness-category/@jerrybanfield/steem-witness-basic-training cleared it up for me, thanks. I didn't know that anyone could become one, and I'm definitely going to get started as one asap. I did some network maintenance in high school for my school so setting up a Linux server should be exciting.

Also, I mentioned you in one of my recent posts on the pros and cons of using a username vs. real name on Steemit. You're a great example of someone who's name makes you feel more personal and memorable. Would love it if you checked it out!

Hola profesor Jerry, tendre que dar un paseo por todos sus post para aprender el manejo de esta plataforma. Muchas gracias ha sido de gran ayuda. He votado por usted como testigo..

Im new here and still learning. Your posts are extremely imformative. Great value for sure. Thanks for teaching.

thank you man you are the reason i am here today

Hlo I am regular following you and your post your post are most effective and informative for nwe steemit user so plz regular make post and share this type of information thanks jerry banfield

Thank you for taking the time to create this article. Always great to get insight and help for newcomers like myself!

Wao nice!!!

Thanks for this @jerrybanfield . I am trying to get my head around this platform and things like witnesses has been a grey area. Keep this info coming. Cheers, BuckyDurddle

I saw a post yesterday by @benjojo about witness voting and I wasn't aware that each of us was allowed 30 votes...I didn't know that the voting is weighted according to SP. Furthermore, it was noted that only about 3% of all steemit accounts have cast a single vote! of course there's dead fish and multiple accounts and all but still that's a very low number.

So this week I'm making a point to vote for witnesses which is no small task for me because I want to at least make a semi educated decision for each.

My first few choices yesterday were you, @goodkarma, @ausbitbank, @lukestokes.mhth, @someguy123 and @dragosroua.

6 down, 24 to go.

Great post. Thank you for sharing these informations.
