Few days ago, when the blockchain froze, I switched some witness-votes around. I especially looked at those witnesses who were slow in updating/bringing back their nodes.
Now, at the same time I caught wind of a theory about @netuoso having connections to the account that caused the bug which froze the blockchain.
While I def. didn't unvote netuoso due to this theory (!), it made the decision on an unconscious level easier as I wasn't satisfied with the way he handled the freeze - making a joke when the blockchain stoped working is not something I'd expect from a top witness, especially when the witness is disabled and no updates were given.
6 days ago, @netuoso wrote an open letter where he explained that he had nothing to do with the bug and everything was a tragic coincidence.
And I believe him!
But in that timeframe, @netuoso lost over 10 witness spots (from top 20 to #30) - which is absolutely nuts.
@netuoso has done a lot of good in his time on Steem. Just recently, he fixed a huge pain-problem in steem-js for witnesses (https://github.com/steemit/steem-js/pull/390) and being punished for something that he had no connections with, is not fair.
Witchhunts and rumours based on false facts are dangerous and can cause huge problems for individuals!
I personally have voted for @netuoso again and I'm urging other Steemians, who have recently unvoted him, to do the same.
We are on Steem because we believe in technology and logic - not in gossip and rumour.

I'm certain he was not responsible for the incident, but the real issue is why it took so long for him to get his witness node updated.
There are so many posts which talk about what witnesses should do and what we should expect of them. Keeping the blockchain running is it, everything else is extra. It's been taken for granted since there haven't been any significant issues (or even so much as a hard fork) for a long time now, but finally an issue occurred, and I think this is where we can really see who is top witness material.
I believe that top 20 witnesses need to be on call 24/7 (or make arrangements for someone to be on their behalf) in case there's an issue with the blockchain like there was last week.
Despite not being top 20, @themarkymark was up all night dealing with this anyway. He deserves to be a lot higher than he currently is. Also @drakos moved up into the top 20 thanks to his efforts that night which I think is very well deserved.

That's right, but he has made no statement about that yet and dropping from top 20 to #30 due to one case?
I personally had my nodes updated and live as soon as I woke up and realized what happened (which was about 1-2 hours after chain was live again), but sadly didn't get an alert otherwise it would have been ealier.
So yeah, I see the importance and @themarkymark & @drakos are great witnesses who deserve higher spots. But this is an

Well put. I wish there was a way to pin your "We are on Steem because we believe in technology and logic - not in gossip and rumour." statement to the top of Steemit.

The worst side-effect of this is that if such behavior is punished then why would any prominent, established people want to go looking for bugs? People should be thankful that nothing was seriously broken permanently and funds are safu.

Then I am glad we were still fast enough with @swisswitness to keep your vote, thanks Wolf
I had not voted for @netuoso on my account and have done so now
(shameless plug: anyone with any spare witness votes, @swisswitness would appreciate them)

Didn't actually know or hear of the @netuoso rumor but from your judgment, i believe him losing his spot from top 20 to 30 is way too drastic a punishment. Just voted for him since i still have spare votes left.
