White Bougainvilea Flowers.

in wiwcontest •  7 years ago

This is my submission for @dmcamera 's White is White contest!
This Week's Theme: Flowers

The Bougainvillea plant is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes, and trees. The flowers are actually very small and each cluster is surrounded by a variety of coloured bracts which include pink, magenta, purple, red, bronze, orange, yellow, and white.

There are 18 species in the genus and are native to South America and Southern Argentina. The vines grow from 3 to 40 feet tall and will easily take over other plants.

They are also characterized by their spiky thorns which have a black, waxy substance on their tips. These plants survive without much water of fertiliser. Although they are very hardy, vigorous pruning is not recommended as it can slow the flowering process down which causes them to go into a strong, vegetative growth phase. This is when long, curved thorns appear on the leaf axis rather than the flowers.

The thorns enable them to get a grip on tree branches and scramble up towards the light. Bougainvilleas are evergreen in climates which receive rainfall all year around and deciduous if there is a dry season. Bougainvillea Glabra are often referred to as “Paper flowers,” because of the thin, papery texture of the bracts.

Great photos. Like the filter you used to draw the attention to the center of the photo.

Hello @thedarkhorse Thank you for your welcome comments and support. I didn’t use a filter with these photos. I just faded the edges when editing. It seems to enhance certain floral images in my opionion. I hope you are having a great day. 🌻

The fading is what I was talking about and knew it was an editing tool. Just worded it wrong. But yes it really adds to the floral images IMO.

It's sunny and I'm going to attack my disaster of an office today. Tossing trash and getting organized to make myself more efficient. So it will be a great day for sure...love that I have time to deal with this today.

Your support is very much appreciated @thedarkhorse The sun is a great motivator isn’t it? It’s probably time I considered doing a bit of a spring (or autumn) cleaning as the case may be, around 🏠 home. I just need to get past the ‘considering’ stage. 😁

Got a bunch of what I wanted done for the day, but not all of it. Still feels great to fill up the trash can and get things in better order. Hopefully by this weekend things will be in good order.

You've made some serious headway. Good for you! I'm still trying to get to base 1 as far as my spring clean goes. And day now.............

Just have to take the first step. Once you see some results you will want to keep going....or at least that is motivation enough for me.

I don't usually have a problem with getting stuck in to chores that need doing. I blame steemit for interrupting my focus. We're going on holiday soon so hopefully I will get organized before we go away. (:

So pretty aren't they. Really like the photos :)

Thank you @andysantics They’re pretty unless you get too close. 😊 Their thorns are very sharp.

Lovely Trudee @trudeehunter. I like the tiny yellow flowers they produce.

Thanks so much @redheadpei The tiny yellow flowers are the true flowers. The white ones are bracts which at first appear like flowers. Isn’t nature amazing?

Beautiful Bougainvillea flowers! This week's theme was snow pictures entitled "White As Snow" though!

Thank you @dmcamera I still get a little confused between the wiw challenge and the contest. I will check more carefully next time. (: Have a great week.
